Absolutely understood. I suppose the better term I should have used is support rather than donate... Support can come in many forms, financial, skill set, or even just positive attitude. All I can do is bring a positive attitude and support the developers by not whining and complaining about the state of FAF every time I log on and I am more than happy to donate financially to a game that I care so much about and spend so much time playing.

It's clear from this thread there is no easy fix so I'm not going to expect the few hundred dollars that I donate a year to instantly change that but it might go towards ensuring our tournaments at FAFLive continue to have great turnouts due to respectable prize pools and that the lights stay on so to speak.

As great as my skill set is in my own life and career it is completely useless for what is required here at FAF but it brings me joy to be able to support financially.

Well, it's not like there is a company that guarantees to solve our connection issues for 10.000$. If there were, we would take such an offer for sure. But that's like hiring an engineer for 10-15 days. Barely enough time to understand the existing code and finding the root cause, far away from fixing it.

Yes you probably want to use smartselect. Here's an example:

Put that in your game.prefs file in the UserKeyActions section (back up before you edit it in case you mess it up). You should then be able to define a key in game. Ideally you don't want identical order values in the same category (I think this might cause issues but I'm not 100% sure).

You can also use the 'idle' descriptor and you can also add or eliminate specific units using a portion of their unit name e.g. -ura0401 eliminates the soul ripper from the selection. There is more info in the link Nex provided.

In order to make your own you may need to look at this file:

which lists all the categories, and perhaps extract (unzip) the unit.nx2 file which can be found in C:\ProgramData\FAForever\gamedata (or whatever drive you have FAForever on). You can then find the categories for all units in their blue prints (.bp files). Or use a text editor which can search within files such as Notepad++ or VScode (or a command line utility) to find all the units which match a specific category you are interested in.

Map hacks existed back in the GPGnet era. Somehow, I have never seen or heard of them again in my entire time on FAF. Surely some people somewhere must know of them though.

@its_time_to_duel That's not been my experience. Whenever I play (afternoon/evening EU time) there's consistently 2-3 lobbies up with random gen maps.

Sure, there's plenty of people playing gap/astro etc, but you don't have to join those lobbies.

Sid made a discord server for russians and groups in VK social network
there was some other group before that that had 4000+ subscribers despite being dead and admin gone

There were at least two websites about supreme commander in Russian

Thoreyed mentioned at #2 not just made few youtube videos, he was explaining how to get started, made VK groups and discord server and many people joined there.

this is kinda from 2021 but not super accurate
i manually searched for youtube channels that have featured supcom at least once
as you can see many of them are Russian

as you can see few are bigger than Gyle and if you see subscriber counts now, Gyle didn't really grow afaik, while for example Lenkin is 130k or something

i don't exactly know why Russians like it, but they do and it had kickstarted a chain of events when Yuri The Professional was making supcom vids and people (especially me) were helping and encouraging to make more.
Eventually his tetris video got millions of views and people started clicking to see the channel and they found supcom videos

Edit2: I might be wrong but the part of the answer why there are so many Russians is that randomly some famous Russian state propaganda guy reposted Yuri Ivanov video about tetris and his youtube channel blew up in popularity and before that tetris video he was making quite a few SupCom videos.

@threeballedalien In the FAF client, go to the top left menu > Settings:

General > Write ICE Log File > check, Forged Alliance Forever > Use FAF Debugger when starting Forged Alliance > check > click "Get the latest version of the debugger", Allow the ICE adapter to use IPv6 > unchecked, Preferred Coturns for ICE > select only Global,

Next, quit the client (check Task Manager). Once it's completely closed, open the client again & play.

The next time you join a game & have connection issues, click the Reply button at the bottom between the 👁 (View) icon & the "Mark unread" button. Next, please go to client > top left menu > Show logs folder > logs > sort by Date Modified, then drag/drop these files into the Reply message window so those that can help (not me) have that data to look at:

client.log file (the Text Document file without the date), ice-adapter.log & advanced-ice-adapter.log (both in a separate folder) the most recent game_21xxxxxx.log file

additional customisation of interface can give advantage.
additional options for hotkeys as well.

but for that you usually need to invest time to spend it in settings or get used to new hotkeys and interface.
some mods give advantage without any drawback.. like "no shake"
with ACU highligt you will never confuse sacu for ACU
i don't use to many of them to give more examples

But it is kinda more important that they make game easyer to play and more enjoyable.
While advantage from UI mods is not big and most UI mods are available for everyone.
just like you can go to settings and adjust stuff for yourself, you can go to mod vault and setup UI mods for yourself
