I often see games filled with Russians and Ukranians, more so than any other nationality. FaF is pretty diverse, but I'd say a good chunk of players are Ukranian or Russian. Is there a reason this game is so big in your country compared to the rest of the world? Or why it is a preferred game in that area of the world?

In the US this game is pretty niche and forgotten, not that FaF has a big ESports scene over there or anything lol, but you get my meaning.

There are a lot of PC gamers in Russia, it’s like most of Asia in that consoles are a much smaller share of gaming. Therefore genres that are more popular on PC like RTS are big. Same with MOBAs and Counter Strike. Single player story focused games are less popular.

Why FAF specifically? Cuz it’s cheap, has low hardware requirements, can deal with higher latency, and it’s good. There are also Russian streamers and YouTubers who have promoted the game. With all that said, I don’t think Russians and Ukrainians are super over represented. Combined they have a very big population, and there are plenty of W European, American, AUS/NZ players with a smattering of others

put the xbox units in the game pls u_u

          Youtuber 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9a5jQfdK7E
2nd channel for supcom only https://www.youtube.com/@professionalsupreme
          youtuber 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aNeiZsk3x0
          3 https://www.youtube.com/@lenkin
          4 https://www.youtube.com/@BassetH/search?query=Supreme commander
          5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj_ubAd4j1Q

Then there is Sid, FAF_Putin, Robogear, Arthas, Finisterre, Paralon, Wifi, Blinchik, Bravo
          also me 😄

Sid made a discord server for russians and groups in VK social network
there was some other group before that that had 4000+ subscribers despite being dead and admin gone

There were at least two websites about supreme commander in Russian

Thoreyed mentioned at #2 not just made few youtube videos, he was explaining how to get started, made VK groups and discord server and many people joined there.

this is kinda from 2021 but not super accurate
i manually searched for youtube channels that have featured supcom at least once
as you can see many of them are Russian
          sorted by subscriber count
          2442c4a4-c90d-42bf-9d3a-aefdebf04b83-image.png
as you can see few are bigger than Gyle and if you see subscriber counts now, Gyle didn't really grow afaik, while for example Lenkin is 130k or something

i don't exactly know why Russians like it, but they do and it had kickstarted a chain of events when Yuri The Professional was making supcom vids and people (especially me) were helping and encouraging to make more.
Eventually his tetris video got millions of views and people started clicking to see the channel and they found supcom videos

          Edit:
i have surely forgot some people like Espiranto, Banani, Kite, SMT5015, demonstreamer and more
There is just to many of those small Russian youtube channels 2586f416-40a0-4c45-bab8-7638798c881c-image.png

Edit2: I might be wrong but the part of the answer why there are so many Russians is that randomly some famous Russian state propaganda guy reposted Yuri Ivanov video about tetris and his youtube channel blew up in popularity and before that tetris video he was making quite a few SupCom videos.
