It's the same issue indeed. The error in the patch is taking some time to revert but it should be fixed Soon TM.

In the meantime you can install uveso ai and swarm ai and try 6 humans vs 6 swarm AI.

But apparently, the guy did not share his working version for whatever reasons. It is a mess.

edit: ~24 hours later and a few games - even the "fixed" file from the other thread has the black box issue. It occurs not that often but still bugged.

Ah ok thanks. I was trying to open the console window in the lobby and I never tried it once I was actually in game. I can at least play for now by doing that command at the beginning of the game.

And you seem to be throwing SND and XACT errors, which is an indication of some kind of sound hardware issue. Those generally always lead to random crashing. Proving that is fairly simple - get a log file from one of the other players that did NOT crash. They should be almost identical with the exception of the SND and XACT errors.

It only affects factory attack moves and not regular attack moves. I also don't know if neutral civilians have the same effect as enemy units or not.

I don't care if you believe me; it's completely reproducible so I KNOW that's what worked for me, even if it goes against everything I know about software development (which is a considerable amount). 🙂

Changing sound settings didn't help at all. I had it set to Stereo, 16bit, 44.1khz, all effects disabled, spatial sound disabled...no dice. Even connected some audio devices that only support stereo (and disabled/uninstalled all others). Didn't help either.

I wish we had access to FA's source code; I'm fairly sure we could fix a lot of things.

Weirdly enough, while others found the same solution (https://steamcommunity.com/app/9420/discussions/0/1620600279663590987/), for some people the problem was fixed by moving Forged Alliance TO the boot volume (https://steamcommunity.com/app/9420/discussions/0/1473096694446040381/).

It used to very often happen to me without using formation move. Luckily i didnt have it happen for quite some time though.

Micro stutter also can be issued from UI mods or log spam.

Can you provide us a game.log ?

Just to follow up here, thanks for the suggestions and help. I kept having crashes until i changed my G-sync settings in the Nvidia control panel to "fullscreen and windowed" mode. The SLI on or off didn't make a difference. Once the G-sync setting was changed I've played 10-12 hrs with no crashes where before it was 1 hr max.
