FAF's rules are set out on the main FAForever website - by accessing FAF services, you agree to the rules outlined there, which are supplemental to the FAF Terms of Service.

For details of how to report rule breaches and/or how the rules are enforced, please refer to the separate page on moderation

Separate contribution guidelines exist for those considering contributing to FAF, while there are also official tournament rules that apply to official FAF tournaments.

@magge OK so....after a lot of testing I think I have narrowed the issue down to 2 mods. "Rings For All" and "UI mod tools"

The random freezing while zooming in and out would almost happen many times during an average game (even if it didnt completely freeze and crash) and that effect is nowhere present when those two mods are disabled and zero crashes now or anything for many dozens of games.

For my part I have no skills to investigate this further but it does seem like there are a lot of people complaining about mid game crashing so maybe this is related.

I am able to use my favorite icon packs again with zero issue, the only bummer for me is not having Rings For All active because that is an amazing mod but build range preview has been working fine so everything is back to normal in FAF world for me.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

If anyone else is crashing mid game and you have either of these 2 mods enabled try disabling them and reassessing.

@Jip said in Offline Line Campaign/Skirmish:

You need to host at least one (coop) game through the client. That will retrieve the file in question. Then you can play offline again.

The game files are not included with the launcher by default.

Thanks for the help Jip, I appreciate it.

You have a sound bug which you can tell by the SND/XACT warnings. You should go to Windows key > Control Panel > Sound > Playback > select the Device you use > Configure to ensure that your sound device is set to Stereo then look in Properties to make sure that all Enhancements & Spatial Sound are Off. After you've verified those settings, usually a simple Restart or Shift+Shutdown (not just Shutdown) of your PC will resolve the sound issue.

If that doesn't work, then you can have a look at this thread for further troubleshooting: https://forum.faforever.com/topic/4084/solutions-for-snd-error-xact-invalid-arg-xact3dapply-failed

⇉ You can navigate to the folders via the FAF client itself (see attached image)

    Overview:

client.log → Contains information about the FAF client itself. Important when client crashes.
game_replay_id.log → Contains information about a certain played game. Important when game crashes.
client.prefs → This JSON config file stores game settings like installation path, preferences, hotkeys, notes, enabled mods, mod and map directories, chat and notification settings, window size and position, and last game type/title.

    Default log location:

    On Windows:

    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Forged Alliance Forever\logs

    On Linux: ~/.faforever/logs

    client.prefs location:

    On Windows:

    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Forged Alliance Forever

Just kill the task in the task manager. But yeah, this bug should get fixed. The FAF client is a mess, most of the time you close it, it stays open in the background and even increases cpu load.

AFAIK One of the next major steps for the developers is to narrow down the issue on the ongoing connection issues which some people encounter lately. The developers have just finished improving the Login Service recently https://forum.faforever.com/topic/6429/login-service-update/1

It is extremely hard and time consuming to debug the network stuff so the "ultimate" solution will take some time.

If the issue is not related to your security settings like firewall or router, then unfortunately I have no idea how you can solve it on your side - except to try it on a fresh Windows with a default environment.

@tripod_youthnoob Apologies for replying to your question with a question, but why didn't you take a moment to read the announcements or recent threads before spending time writing this post?

@magge said in Solutions for common errors with the FAF client launcher or supreme commander:

The client is unable to establish a secure connection to the content server for downloading the game files.

Disable security software for testing purpose
Check firewall settings, if it blocks anything related to secure connection/FAF Launcher

Try switching your default browser in Windows Settings & then try to logging in with browser again. Some browsers have difficulty completing the authentication process.

If you still have issues, then please open Run (Windows+R), then copy/paste this into the prompt:

    %USERPROFILE%/AppData\Roaming\Forged Alliance Forever\logs

Click OK. This should open the logs folder that FAF uses. Inside, you should see a client.log file (the Text Document, not the .gz compressed file). Post that client.log file into here so those that can help (not me) have that data to review.

Switching back to stereo on my headphone sound system fixed the problem. I had headphones on 7.1 surround sound.

Hello, please check your antivirus program. FAF sometimes requires authorization from you when installing a client update.
