The current pre-release of the client ("pioneer" in the version) is only compatible to itself. So you can only play with other testers. Please be aware!

That isn't correct - any UI that uses the default functions helper functions for UI, namely those in LayoutHelpers.lua, will scale properly. Only when people invented their own functions the scaling is not taken into account by default. I do not think the word 'lazy' is correct here - it is more people just not knowing that the helper file exists. If they did, it would scale automatically just like the rest of the UI.

For anyone who wanders in off of google or wherever: Just started running FAF a day or two ago, and I was experiencing a similar issue. The issue was that C:\ProgramData (the default folder FAF wants to use for its data) is unwriteable, and while I'm sure with enough finagling you could 'convince' your computer to let you have permissions for the folder... But alternatively, and TL;DR - Move your FAF Client Data folder. Click on the menu (top-left corner, the three horizontal lines), select Settings, a pop-up window appears. Click on the tab that says Data and caches. The top item is Data Location, defaulting to C:\Program Files[something or other]. Make a new folder somewhere else, preferably as far away from default Windows directories as possible. I've experienced similar issues with programs and apps not working right when they use Windows-created directories, so I suspected this was the issue, and sure enough it worked for me. The whole permissions thing probably would work, but I tried it (I'm not exactly an IT guy, but I do know my backslashes from my forward slashes) and Windows 10 is just so ridiculously painful about back-end account management that I was just like "whatever, so much easier to move to a different directory".

@askaholic said in Another crash when creating/joining guys: The file C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin\ForgedAlliance.exe is either corrupted, has wrong permissions, or you have an anti-virus that's blocking it from running. i have no antivirus and deleted that exe. Faf downloads new one and nothing changes. Tried old FA Forever 20.1 client instead of new Downlord's. It works fine.

Thanks for the directions. With the download I was able to identify the issue: there were still some files from a very old version of FAF still around, including an older version of the executable of the game, and the client seems to have been trying to start that one. Fully deleting the older files has resolved the issue.

Data error (cyclic redundancy check). Its a bit unusual, but this error says there is a problem with your HDD/SSD. (i see this error the first time in SupCom) Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) is basically a data verification method that computer uses to check the accuracy of data on the disks (hard disk drive, optical disks such as CD, DVD etc.) CRC detects accidental changes to raw data residing in the storage media. I would suggest to check your drives: Are all cables plugged in correctly ? chkdsk C: /f (error scan for disc files) sfc /scannow (validate system files) In case there are too many errors with chkdsk or sfc then reinstall windows. hopefully you don't need a new HDD/SSD here After this make a filecheck from the game via steam; Then delete everything inside C:\ProgramData\FAForever\gamedata (remove the FAF game data) Deinstall the FAF client and make a fresh new install. Now try again; Host a game with the FAF client to redownload the deleted files from FAF-gamdata. Note: Please have in mind the error text was printed from the game, so its possible that this error is a false interpretation of the real error cause.

Thank you. Didn't know I had to use the "%s". Tested it. Args can be both inside and outside the quotes. Note that FAF will still need the default game.prefs file even though it uses the settings from the specified file. Otherwise FAF will give an error which can be ignored but is annoying. For reference the exact text I used is: "%s /prefs Game_FAF.prefs" or "%s" /prefs Game_FAF.prefs (I know from experience how annoying it is when theres an answer to the question but all they say is: 'got it, ty'.)

Thanks for the help. The download part seems to be working better now. Yes the coop is broken in several ways, but its just playable (using youtube to fill in the cutscenes and bits the game is missing.) Looking forward to playing it properly when its fixed!

You generally cannot unlink steam from an account. However you can reset a FAF account password using the steam account. On the website click on reset password in the drop-down menu, and there will be an option to reset via steam.
