Chicken Storm
-
Using the beetle as an example of a death weapon unit, the beetle does 1100 damage for 190 mass
thats 5.8 Damage per mass if you round it
scaling that up to the chicken storm at 240,000 max damage thats 41,379 mass cost for the storm alone
Chicken is 26.5k mass
So when i say the storm is free damage thats what I mean
If you added the mass value of the storm at current balance the chicken would cost 67,879 mass

Yes, but in a real game, a chicken will never do that much damage because the enemy will simply withdraw his army.
-
-
It does 220k-240k damage to land units and land factories but it misses ~2/3 of its beam lifetime vs allies and non-land units because it doesn't maintain its targeting on them.
-
-
Land factory cost mass = 240, Land factory cost energy = 2100, Mech Marine cost mass = 30, Mech Marine cost energy = 120, Mech Marine damage = theoretically infinite
This kind of breakdown doesn't provide any meaningful information. You need to demonstrate that storm is causing issues for game balance.

Lets say this imaginary chicken walks through all defenses and arrives in the middle of the base and dies. Please check how much damage it actually does. This is not comparable to 2 megas standing next to it where no shot misses.

Once again, an unrealistic teat because those are hp sponge buildings and not what an actual base would look like.
(tbh i feel a bit stupid even entertaining this scenario. Any air unit is in that case also op because they get free crash damage) -
@nuggets let me know when you find an air unit that does 100 - 240 k crash damage
-
Ok when do you find a nuke that does exactly 70k damage? You conveniently only look at the damage shown on the unit stats for a nuke, but highest potential damage for a chicken storm.
A nuke can also do 10 million damage if you have enough stuff in the nuke radious.Essentially i an trying to say what everyone else said already these comparisons and scenarios make no sense. Such as ignoring that the storm also does team damage if it dies in your own army

Correct. On paper. Thankfully we are not playing on paper so balance is created around actual ingame scenarios.
You dismiss my argument because i am not talking about things on paper but asking for realistic scenarios.Lets take an "on paper" example:
Would you rather have a chicken or a megalith (which is more expensive). On paper, according to you, the chicken is better.
Also the fatboy has no death damage so i guess its useless. -
Your missing the pont of my argument.
This game is based entirely around its economy.
Units need a mass and energy cost that are relevant to the units potential
The storm has no cost, yet has very high potential
All I am trying to say is that the storm should have a cost that reflects its potential.
The higher the potential the higher the cost.

I agree with Caliber. Look at this scenario where a chicken destroys 5.57 million mass worth of infrastructure, without even shooting.

The free storm did all of this. It's ridiculous, frankly.
-
@waffelznoob even your beloved snoop has a mass and e cost, pointless make the snoop free!
-
@nuggets In this test on structurs I used 9 UEF land HQs with 16000k health each the chicken storm did exactly 100,000 damage on structers in this test, so half damage to structures which is still roughly 1.5 free nukes
A nuke would destroy all of this and even more if you placed more buildings.
