Chicken Storm
-
Ironically it's waffelznoob and his jokes that point out the main difference between our thinking.
You seem to think that the storm is a weapon of the Ythotha, I and believe its a separate entity/unit that is only created by the Ythotha.
The thinking that the storm is somehow a weapon of the Ythotha is like thinking that a percy is part of a factory because its created by it.
Yeah i also think crash damage of air units is a separate entity

Did you also know that when you make a satellite building you get a free satellite that does infinite damage over time? I mean, i just paid for the building but that thing pops out for FREE and can go anywhere
-
Storm is “another unit” because that’s the game code solution to making it work when the chicken is dead what kinda backward logic are you trying to use to justify this weird urge to nerf an ability that nobody has a problem with
-
Because as a mechanic the storm sucks, its only real effect on the game is slow you down, ok a storm now exists and we just have to wait 30 seconds before we can move on with the game. or to reward brain rot suicide tactics.

I guess that boils down to what this discussion is about. It's not about the damage. Even if it was two times more or less, you'd not want to walk through it. Instead, I think it is about slowing down the game by denying an area for 30 seconds.
Maybe another direction to look at is the duration of the storm, instead of emphasizing the damage output. The damage output is, uuhh - not quite reliable. But its ability to deny an area is. What if the storm only lasts 10 seconds? Would that solve your problems with it?
-
@jip Imo that would certainly be an improvement
-
I personally don't think we see enough area denial, and chicken storms certainly make attacking a Seraphim position strategically different. People talk about a chicken advancing and dying, but I don't think they're nearly as powerful in that respect as if you are falling back, precisely because enemies can't follow you through the storm. I would be sad to see the timer reduced to a mere 10 seconds.
-
How about this for a compromise, I made a mod that buffs the storm as the chicken gets veterancy

Chicken storm is the only thing that carries the Seraphim in t3-t4 stage. Don't touch it!
In other words, buff othuum -
Sorry to Necro. But where is this idea that "the storm is free" coming from? The storm has always been part of the chicken, and presumably balanced in the cost by GPG and the balance team over the last 19 years.

@hotcheeseinrear before the update to the storm that changed the target priority of the storm it was fairly balanced, due to the fact that the storm was a neutral entity and didn't favour one army over the other.
This serves as a strong buff depending on the situation, however the build costs were not changed to reflect the chicken storms new effectiveness.
But rather than build costs as the costs of the chicken are fair what's should have happened imo is that when they changed the storm it effectively became x2 more powerful against your opponent by not prioritising freindly units, so the storm should have also had a -50% dps reduction.
-
While i disagree with many things you said, i do agree and dislike the fact that the storm has prio on enemy units. Its like saying a pgen explosion will do 50% less damage against friendlies

Using the beetle as an example of a death weapon unit, the beetle does 1100 damage for 190 mass
thats 5.8 Damage per mass if you round it
scaling that up to the chicken storm at 240,000 max damage thats 41,379 mass cost for the storm alone
Chicken is 26.5k mass
So when i say the storm is free damage thats what I mean
If you added the mass value of the storm at current balance the chicken would cost 67,879 mass
-
Beetle’s 1100 is an aoe so if we’re talking theoretical max damage that aoe could be packed with say 35 units, meaning abut 40k damage for just 190 mass.
Hence why realistic scenarios and likely practical results are much more valuable to assessing things than theoretical best case scenarios
