New account in FAF

I think you know more than the mods, because if the mods knew of players with multiple accounts, they'd ban them
I only know a few people who used to have alt accounts but those were bannedSurely...

Please elaborate.
-
I mean theoretically if you buy supreme commander on Steam under a second account and then Steam link that account they cant stop you.
You have made a purchase of goods with the availability there. -
@Skrat There are no hidden rules. Rules exist for a specific purpose. Since there can be exceptional cases, there can also be exceptions. These are at the courtesy of the moderation team.
There's a rule to prevent additional accounts of the same player. One purpose of this rule is to enable and improve competitive play, especially in the lower brackets.
If I understood correct then in this situation a player returned who requested to have his account deleted a few years ago. That means he can't restore the old account. The only way to play again would be to create a new account. What weighs more in this situation: should we allow a high rated player return to improve the overall competitive scene at the cost of temporarily scuffing the lower brackets?
This decision is at the courtesy of the moderation team. At the time of writing I think the rating already corrected itself. It seems to me that the right decision was made here. And I hope to see the player in question in upcoming tournaments.
-
So I could request to have my account deleted and come back on a new one a few years down the line?

There's no guarantee, but you're free to try

Didnt know FAF rules were supposed to have exceptions!
-
Take note Steam/GOG Link info stays even on deleted accounts. So even if you were allowed to make a new account after deletion, you won't be able to use your old Steam/GOG.

@Jip @Deribus I'm glad that some players are coming back (such a player is not 1, we all know that) I will be glad to see them in tournaments. But I believe that such decisions by the moderator team should be public. It is necessary to indicate his previous nickname in the profile of such a player. Or give all players the opportunity to be anonymous, hiding their nickname.
-
@Skrat I don't see the need for such measures. Nicknames are meaningless (to me) to identify people since they get changed too often. And being anonymous just means casters (and their viewers) no longer know whether they're watching their favorite player. What does it achieve, except for more bureaucracy and complexity that isn't even related to the game itself?
-
@Jip There are only 2 options.
- Nicknames are not important. Then give all players the opportunity to be anonymous. So that the nickname is not visible
- Nicknames are important, then don't make obscure exceptions.
There is no bureaucracy or complexity involved.
-
Making players anonymous is the definition of complexity. It is technically not a trivial feat. A huge rework of how FAF operates (in a technical fashion, 'under the hood'). And it's a very unusual feature too. There's no other game that I am aware of that has this feature.
There was nothing obscure about this. The situation was exceptional. A decision was made that is in favor of the competitive scene. Why is it that you can't appreciate that?
-
@Jip I know games where a player can hide their nickname. For example WOT.
But that's not the point. I appreciate the decision. I don't appreciate secrets. If the situation is exceptional, the moderators can simply write about it so that it is public.
I don't see any good reason why one player can hide his past nickname, but the other can't. And I don't see any problems from the fact that information about his past will be public. It's not difficult, and it's honest.
The more secrecy there is, the more questions there are. Is not it so?
-
@Jip Not so long ago, the moderators wanted to change the nickname once every six months, which the entire community was unhappy with. We don't allow nicknames like |||||| precisely because nicknames are important. This is the position of the community, which is written in the rules
-
So just to be clear, I'm pretty sure what Skrat was getting to was the fact that this one specific player that got a new account while being anonymous is what he is trying to prevent.
Either offer this to anyone, or publicly state who this player is and why the decision was made. (ofc there can be more behind the scenes, but we basically know nothing except for the result) -
You're (both) being unreasonable here. This conversation is leaving a sour taste for me. You ask for more bureaucracy. And at the same time (in other topics) you ask for less. There's no way to satisfy you people. It's getting a little bit silly. I won't respond further. If you feel this wronged then I suggest you try to join the moderation team. Then perhaps you can 'do it right' when you're on the other side of the equation.
I guess it's my miss interpretation that it's a nice change* for once that the competitive scene grew a little bit
. Just take the win and appreciate it. It can be that simple. -
@Jip I'm not asking for more or less bureaucracy. I ask the moderators to be consistent and logical.
If there are more rules, then for everyone, if there are fewer, then for everyone too. I agree that if the previous account is deleted, the player has the right to receive a new one.
But I still haven't heard a single reason why information about a past nickname should be a secret.
Hiding such information suggests that such players (there are several of them) were previously banned for cheats or smurfing. There's no other reason to hide anything. I'm not the only one who thinks so.
I am grateful for your answers and do not ask you to continue the dialogue if it is uncomfortable for you. I hope the moderator team will also respond with something.

As Skrat said "we" (although i dont know how it became "we", i was just clarifying what Skrat was saying) are not tying to add more bureaucracy. FAF has rules in place, and in this case (or maybe even more cases if Skrat knows more) an exception has been made where the reasoning is not known.
P.s. tried to join team moderation over a year ago! Got declined! So unfortunately, I can't "do it right" (not saying anything wrong was done, just quoting you).
Also not sure why faf privacy is being quoted here. Nobody is asking for personal information. What Skrat was asking was the previous Username.

The FAF forums have become more entertaining than FAF itself these past few months. Holy hell these endless threads about moderation are so inane. Do y'all not have anything better to do? Someone asked for their account to be deleted, and then made a new account at some point later in time? What the hell is the problem? I've done this myself in several games. Why do you even care? Just play the damn game.
