@personne Unfortunately, the majority of FAF infrastructure has been under near-constant DDOS attacks since the end of September/beginning of October. A lot of measures have been taken to mitigate those attacks, but they're still happening & not all are able to be dealt with. The hardest hit systems now are the Coturn servers, which are used to assist with making connections between players when a stable P2P connection can't be established. At this time, there's only 1 Cotrun (labeled Global) that is having better success than the others because it's a 3rd party service with some additional protections.
With all that said, here are the current best suggestions for helping with connection issues:
In the FAF client, go to the top left menu > Settings:
- General > Write ICE Log File > check,
- Forged Alliance Forever > Use FAF Debugger when starting Forged Alliance > check > click "Get the latest version of the debugger",
- Allow the ICE adapter to use IPv6 > unchecked,
- Preferred Coturns for ICE > select only Global,
Next, quit the client (check Task Manager). Once it's completely closed, open the client again & play.
The next time you join a game & have connection issues, please click the Reply button at the bottom between the (View) icon & the "Mark unread" button. Next, go to client > top left menu > Show logs folder > logs > sort by Date Modified, then drag/drop these files into the Reply message window so those that can help (not me) have that data to look at:
- client.log file (the Text Document file without the date),
- ice-adapter.log & advanced-ice-adapter.log (both in a separate folder)
@quietjoy With regards to modifying some unit properties, I'd suggest having a look at Balthazar's SupCom Mod Tutorials Wiki. Balthazar is the creator of the popular BrewLAN mod & is very active in the community.
Just tip the balance to the faction since that's the best faction already.
Problem solved.
@rama Please pass this along to whomever you got this from:
All versions of SCFA hates Alt+Tab or other things that take focus away while playing in fullscreen, so if you're going to do that, then it's highly recommended that you play in Windowed. There are programs like Borderless Gaming or scripts like one of the ones in this FAF forum thread to make the window fit the entire screen so it appears that you're playing in fullscreen even though you're not.
@nicholasporan Not to be rude, but are you getting your info from ChatGPT?
The only thing that is correct from your post is item 1, with the exception that the FAF Client would be listed as faf-client.exe, not faf-launcher.exe. As for points 2 & 3, there is no such thing as a FAF Overlay & the logs are found in a users AppData folder, not in the either the FAF Client or FAF game data folders.
@Sheikah Can you please make the Steam overlay integration a user toggleable option instead of it always being on?
The reason I ask is because I don't play FAF, but I'm always around the FAF community to help others which often requires me to have the client open while I also have Steam running & open to help people in that community too. Since I'm not actually playing FAF but frequently have both the FAF client & Steam open, I don't want my play time altered unless I'm actually playing.
I like the idea of this feature, but it should either be a user toggleable option or only be triggered when creating or joining a game from the client.
Thanks.
I haven't tested in FAF, but in LOUD, I can just drag the assist order to a non-factory structure like a pgen, mass extractor, etc.. This results in that factory producing units from its own queue & not resuming assisting the other factory afterwards. In fact, you can continue to add units to the queue & just leave the assist order attached to the non-factory structure.
Edit: I just tested in a sandbox & this can also be done if FAF.
As to the 2nd question about making tweaks to a generated map, yes, you can make any tweaks you want; however, this new version is going to be for your personal use or for those that you share it with as NO generated maps (even with tweaks) are to be uploaded to the Maps vault.
@diobolical OK, 2 things to do for further troubleshooting:
- Go to your Steam SCFA folder > DirectX, then run the DXSETUP.exe installer to re-install the DirectX files that SCFA uses (just in case those weren't installed correctly).
- Go to Steam > Library > right-click SCFA > Properties > General > Launch Options > copy/paste this into that field:
/log "A:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\logs\steamfa.log"
I grabbed that file path from your client.log, so you'll need to change it if that's not the correct path to your Steam SCFA install.
Try Steam SCFA again after doing the above.
This is the August 2007 installation of the XACT software needed to work with sounds for SCFA.
Not at the moment. That functionality is going to be added back in with the upcoming hotfix. For now, you'll need to use the keybind (F1 > Orders - Mouse context > Cycle Templates) for the new template feature (https://wiki.faforever.com/en/Play/Game/Hotkeys/OrdersMouseContext).
There's a keybind called "Stop and cancel all factory orders except the current one". This works for factories & engineers.
@binaryman You should go to Windows key > type: Control Panel > Open > Sound > Playback > select the Device you use > Configure to ensure that your sound device is set to Stereo then look in Properties to make sure that all Enhancements & Spatial Sound are Off. After you've verified those settings, usually a simple Restart or Shift+Shutdown (not just Shutdown) of your PC will resolve the sound issue.
If your headphones come with any applet/program, then you may want to disable that & try using the headphones without it. Similarly, if they use a USB or Bluetooth dongle to connect to the PC, see if you can connect directly without the dongle.
If that doesn't work, then you can have a look at this thread for further troubleshooting: https://forum.faforever.com/topic/4084/solutions-for-snd-error-xact-invalid-arg-xact3dapply-failed
@man_milk In addition to what @Jip stated, you can also use the new template feature to get the same result, you just need to use that hotkey instead of it appearing automatically as it did with the old function.
@ginandtonicbot Sorry to see that you're having issues, Can you please click the Reply button at the bottom between the (View) icon & the "Mark unread" button. Next, go to client > top left menu > Show logs folder > logs > sort by Date Modified. From there, drag/drop the most recent game_21xxxxxx.log file (should be of the last game that crashed) into the Reply message window so those that can help (not me) have that data to look at.
@analyzenoob You have a sound bug which you can tell by the SND/XACT warnings. Simple fix steps are:
- Windows key > type: Control Panel > Open > Sound > Playback > select the Device you use:
- Configure > Stereo > finish configuration,
- Properties:
- Enhancements > Disable all enhancements,
- Advanced > no higher than 24 bit, 48000 Hz,
- Spatial Sound > Off,
- Restart or Shift+Shutdown (not just Shutdown) of PC
If your headphones come with any applet/program, then you may want to disable that & try using the headphones without it. Similarly, if they use a USB or Bluetooth dongle to connect to the PC, see if you can connect directly without the dongle.

@zeldafanboy said in Suggestion for TML: bigger yellow projectile indicator:
Most people already play with a UI mod that highlights tactical missile icons.
What you're describing are icon mods with a different strategic icon for the TML structures. What's being discussed in this thread is the icon for the actual tactical missile projectile.
