@captainklutz And for the rest 3 factions please.
-
No offense, but most of these attempts are really bad because they try to make the faction sound epic in a forced cringey way. Just explain the background of the faction and their gameplay strengths. Saying that the Seraphim are “unique,” “powerful” and “fearsome” is meaningless. And what faction doesn’t use tactical unit compositions to win? That’s just the basic strategy of the game…
-
@melanol Stalwart defenders of the old human values, the UEF find strength in unyielding rigidity. Their conventional but deadly weapons are capable of delivering destruction at any range while withstanding significant counter-fire from their foes.
The Aeon are zealots enhanced by technology from beyond normal human grasp. To succeed as one requires mastery of not only the harmony of their standard ground forces, but also sowing discord with their variety of specialised units.
Fighting a vicious war for their freedom, the Cybran are one with their machines, producing some of the most brutally efficient weaponry in the galaxy. However, their arsenal is far from being just direct, as their stealth and subterfuge capabilities are second to none.
Beings from beyond our sphere of existence, the Seraphim are more than simply alien. Command an army of unique and powerful weaponry out of reach of the human factions, and combine extraterrestrial technology and tactics to overwhelm your opponents.
-
@captainklutz The aeon one feels like it missed the mark. How about something that highlights their love for precision, range, and high alpha dmg?
-
Here, using GPT-4.
United Earth Federation (UEF): The United Earth Federation strives to unite the galaxy under a single banner, offering stability and order through a human-centric government. They boast powerful and versatile conventional military technology, exemplifying strength and resilience in their war machinery. Cybran Nation: The Cybran Nation, composed of cybernetically-enhanced humans, fights for the liberation of their kind from oppression. Their technology focuses on stealth and electronic warfare, enabling them to launch surprise attacks and manipulate the battlefield with advanced robotics. Aeon Illuminate: The Aeon Illuminate, followers of an alien philosophy known as 'The Way', seek to enlighten the galaxy and bring peace through understanding. Their technology is advanced and exotic, harnessing the power of quantum energy and focusing on precision and agility. Seraphim: The Seraphim, an enigmatic and powerful alien race, are the newest contenders, seeking retribution and the spread of their own zealous beliefs. Their technology is highly advanced and alien, focusing on overwhelming firepower and robust, imposing units, often surpassing the other factions in sheer power.

There is faction descriptions that come with the game, are they not good enough?
-
Did you guys miss the part where they said they already found good wording and there's just nobody on FAF capable of copy pasting the text to the website?
-
@thomashiatt Yes I did miss that.
How do we not have someone that can edit the website?
-
Just don't try to attribute gameplay traits to a faction because they just don't work. The only one that does is cybran being stealthy
-
@waffelznoob
UEF units have more hp (generally)
Aeon has more specialised units / their units are missing weapons/features that comparable units of other factions have.
Seraphim have more multi-purpose unitsThere are things your can attribute to the factions, but the impact they have on how the faction plays differently from the others is questionable
-
Maybe you should first discuss what you want to have in the text, like generally, before you iterate on the wording.
Should it just be lore flavor, or unit design, or gameplay implications? -
First I think you need to work our what the point of the page is. Is it to convert rts fans to supcom? Or is it to convert steam fa players to faf?
After that pick text that helps with that goal. What's the goal
-
@blackyps @nine2 We did have that discussion
https://forum.faforever.com/topic/5469/factions-text-for-web-site-need-suggestions
We should come up with better descriptions for the four factions.
Before we can do that, we need to decide what purpose and tone this section of the web site should have and who its intended audience is.

Try to explain to a newbie why the faction that is advertised as "the tanky faction" has the least tanky tanks at t2 stage, and why their percival is matched by the brick. They also have the squishiest T4, but atleast the buildings are consistent. In any case, too many exceptions to the rule.
Aeon's only specialised unit is the absolver.
Units lacking weapons and/or features that units from other factions do have is not exactly a selling point, and not consistent either.Seraphim has more multi-purpose units? Which ones? And please don't mention the zthuee being a good unit to have out on the seas
Edit: won't be responding on this matter further, just bringing out my views. Don't really wanna flood the thread. In my opinion, keep the descriptions lore and design oriented.

for whatever reason, the conversation veered off track into negativity
Yes, FAFers are quite the argumentative type lol
