Love stats. First image is unintelligible though. Should remove the faction colours and use a LOESS approach to scatterplot smoothing to get a nice lineplot for each of the subgraphs.

Who's the max outlier in the second graph, last rating bucket?

For third image, should add a low-opacity overlay of the map on top of the graph haha.

I had a second so I pulled the unique players per month and player games per month for the last 10 years just to show how the trend continued from the first post

I became interested in what countries players play FAF from, but I did not find such graphs or diagrams. Please make a chart where the percentage indicates from which countries how many players play.

@Sheikah When you have time could we get an updated graph that includes 2024?
Also, would it be possible to get stats on how many active players we have in different rating brackets? It would be useful to gauge if there is a decline in new players or if high-rated scene is declining.

Yes, we clearly need a graph to see if high rated scene is declinging. I bet it doesn't even show as declining because tons of people are 2k+ now, but the skill difference is still there.

People like you are exactly why the competitive scene is "declinging." Instead of focusing on supporting and encouraging new players, you seem to be more interested in maintaining a sense of elitism. The influx of high-rated players should be seen as an opportunity to foster a more vibrant and dynamic competitive environment. By being dismissive and critical, you're contributing to a negative atmosphere that discourages new talent from developing and thriving. If we want the competitive scene to grow and improve, we need to be inclusive and supportive, not dismissive and divisive.

                    frick snoops!

Not to necro this thread but I would love to see players by country by percentage. There seems to be lots of russians playing!

@DETHTRON Only the data for the last 2 years will not be relevant as many Russian players have started using VPNs

@DETHTRON There's no easy way to look at this, because we don't store the country of origin anywhere.
I could do some IP lookup stuff, but like Skrat said many Russians will be falsely identified as members of other countries due to VPN use. Similarly we have a number of Chinese players who all use VPNs.

More recent stats here, why the way.

You can approximate many of them by parsing game chat from replays. Few words in a relevant language will be enough to label player with a 90-95% certainty.

It's possible but it will take a few more tricks like this just to discover one demographic group.

@Sainse I disagree. Many players do not write a single word in the chat during the entire game + many players write in English, even when it is not their native language. I've played a lot of games where 7 out of 8 players were from Russia, but they still wrote in English.
