With "Advanced Strategic Icons" and similar mods, the icons are bigger for T3 mexes than T2 mexes, and T2 mexes have bigger icons than T1 mexes. This does make the level of each mex more clear. The higher-level mexes are more noticeable.

This doesn't exactly solve your problem, which is that you want to notice low-level mexes that ought to be upgraded.

UI Party not only has an accounting of your mexes (telling you how many you have of t1, t1 upgrading, t2, etc.) but you can click on those icons to "select all." So you can click on the t1 mex icon to select all t1 mexes on the map. If you're zoomed out and you do that, you should quickly see where the "safest" ones are that you can upgrade.

There is also a keyboard shortcut for "Select nearest onscreen lowest tech idle mass extractor." That is also a way to find T1 mexes that you might want to upgrade.

I do have trouble using it in games, but I think it might be more effective on different maps. It has a little AOE and a few times I've been able to sneak them near a tightly grouped blob of ASF and get great value, but mostly they deter gunships from hitting my land forces.

I have on occasion put 6 cougars in a Continental, then had it move forward to bait the enemy air blob, only to unload and shred the blob up a bit, giving a favorable engagement to my air.

Known issue and sadly, there isn't much we can do about it as far as I am aware 😞

If someone could make a mod that maa can fire in transports it certainly would be fun. If this would be a serious considered balance patch one nerf could be tech level that can fire

I don't think I'll stop placing small rocks. I place big rocks and wrecks for early game reclaim targets, and small rocks for aesthetics and late game attack move engineers. They serve different purposes. Admittedly on maps of mine like Stickleback I could replace some of the rock bundles with geothermal style rock groups but then I have to worry about the aesthetics and the disproportionately large reclaim the geo rocks provide.

Edit: one of the maps that I think gets the balance pretty perfect is Twin Rivers.

I guess having more Hp and the abillity to construct makes them a more appealing option when you have lost air control, right?
