Is there an official stance from the FAF Administration and other Teams about the ongoing events?

I know there are many Russians playing FAF and if everyone would just come along, having fun playing some games together, there would be no problem.

But in the last days, there is an increasing amount of game titles which are Pro-Putin or with inappropriate meme titles about the peacekeeping mission war in Ukraine.

Not only from Russia or Belarus player (But mainly), but also from players from different countries (Just today I saw a fellow German player, spreading propaganda. Idiots can be on all sides.).

The chat in the lobby is a battlefield for itself and increasingly toxic since the last days. I am for freedom and everyone should be able to express his/her/whatever thoughts without suppression, but there is a clear line between having a discussion at eye level and plain fully just insulting with Pro-Putin or Anti-Ukraine propaganda.

Please, can the Administration take a clear stance on that matter and act accordingly.

There's no need for any mention of any politics (of any sort) in FAF. Let's keep politics out of our hobby. Everyone has their opinions but we play FAF to escape our normal lives and relax, let's keep it a positive environment if we can.

The current closest FAF rule I can find is :
"Do not harass, defame, or discriminate other players based on their sexual orientation, gender, race, culture, religion, nationality."

Could we strengthen this in terms of just banning politics?

A rule banning politics would prohibit the same speech that Putin tries to prohibit inside Russia

Honestly, I don't know, but given I have seen organizations across the global from sports, music & entertainment, governments etc put out statements I think it is a little sad we have not at least stated "We understand that emotions are high and ask that everyone please try to stay civil and keep FAF as a place for our minds to wander away from the stresses of these events."

I think controlling conversations about such events will be nearly impossible but to an extent should attempt to deter it. I will discuss with the board and council.

It’s a war gaming community filled with dudes in mid 20s and 30s, banning politics is like banning history discussion in a total war discord. Just remove the chat function while you’re at it.

Like I said, we will make an official statement to ASK, not demand, that it is lightened up a bit.

If there is going to be a statement, it should be one of empathy for all persons displaced or threatened by violence and to remind FAF players that whatever they write might be read by a FAF player who is at risk or has family members at risk.

NOT a statement of support for redditors whose "emotions are high" because they decided 3 days ago that they're emotionally super-invested in the Ukraine conflict (even though they knew nothing about Ukraine one week ago and what they know today is just propaganda) and they're shocked, hurt, surprised, wounded to see that anyone disagrees.

We are discussing among the board and council how to best write the statement in current. I initiated the conversation as stated beforehand that we will acknowledge this, but do want everyone to know that controlling everything is not our aim. There is no way we can tell everyone to be silent but ask to try and be respectful to those affected.

To backup Morax - we are discussing this very topic with the board and the council members. Thank you @magge for initiating the discussion publicly.

Ftx is right. It's becoming increasingly hard to escape politics.

That said, I have no recommendation on how to handle it. (But doing nothing seems like a reasonable option... after all, the war will be decided by other people one way or another.)

Everybody has grasped it outside of this forum, it seems. Russian players must be banned. It is that simple. Even if it guts the community. Every sport, every game, every company is politics now.

@cpt_cnullrufs sports are banning players that are representing Russia from competing. Big difference to banning/discriminating against someone just because they live in Russia which is what you seem to be suggesting.

No, we should ban Americans, they are bullying me for my IP. This is discrimination.

If Gabe bans all the russians from steam then we can start thinking about doing something like that.
