@Saver rather using one thats already there, the mega already has a lot of range rings, as you can see on your bottom picture you can see the orange ring that represents the torpedo defense max range, if you match the backup distance to that or close to it, it could serve as a visual marker for the player.

your picture also visualises the movement order issue in that the player has to create many small orders which is easy to mess up, rather than just one or to larger movement orders.

Mega backup distance has been buffed 12->15 about 1.5 years ago.

It's possible to buff it up to 20 but beyond that I doubt there would be any micro benefit.

Ah great, then I'll add that value to my mod so I can easily test it 🙂 So BackUpDistance = 15, -> 20

auch mal fünf gerade sein lassen

Wow, I never noticed how big the difference is between the Megalith and the Fatboy.

I was never really aware of it.

As a small test, the value 20 by Megalith feels very comfortable.

The current situation, what does a distance of 15 look like to a player? at the miniute players just have to guess what that distance is.

If you increase it even without a visual marker it would be easier to guess, but lets say you increase it to match both as in savers example to the fatboy and the megaliths torpedo defense range conveniantly gives you a nice large bright orange visual que as to what the peramiters of the megaliths backward movement command is.

              @Sainse
which is a monumentally huge micro benefit, being able to actually see where you can give movement commands.

                I agree.

Of course, you still need the time to click the command.

But I think the range already significantly improves the reverse movement.

However, I can't say whether using an indicator still balances things.

I definitely lack the experience there.

I'm always amazed at the incredible microphones some players have here ^^ and what they can accomplish with them.

@Caliber If you come up with a suitable type of ring, let me know.

Then I'll integrate it into my mod (Savers Unitspack). Then you can test the Megalith with it.

Except for the new construction function, the Maegalith is based on FAF standards.

Instead of clicking 5 times close to mega you could just click once thurther away = better

what if you don't want it to move backwards, but to turn around? what about all the other units in the game that can back up? ambiguity will always exist except instead of it being a niche thing for the megalith it becomes total confusion for a ton of units.
there's little point in changing these mechanics when the simple solution is to just click behind the megalith a few times, it's really not hard

                      frick snoops!

@waffelzNoob youre right its not hard, but we see implementaions for other actions that are also no hard being added all the time to make the gameplay more conveniant (less clicking needed) for the player.

As pointed out by saver the back up distance for the fatboy is 30, I dont beleive any one has any concerns with the fatty being 30, the mega is 15, and somehow this would break the mega?

Its just a small easy change I wanted to suggest that makes micro more convenient for player thats all.
