Add the Tombstones from the 2025 April Fool's Update as a Permanent Feature

Does it make sense to have a ACU wreck instead of a stone tombstone? I know the ACU explodes in a big bang but if all my 2000 best faf friends are willing to suspend disbelief on the ACU chasis being able to withstand a nuclear explosion well enough to leave a blackened wreck I won't argue against it. But yes, nice function, let's keep it.

That's a fair comment. I reckon making tombstones that fit each faction's design language is doable (UEF: Blocky, Cybran: Angular, Aeon: Round/Curved, Seraphim; Asymmetric). It is more work though and I have 0 knowledge on making models myself, unfortunately.

The only concern I can think about regarding an ACU wreck is that it can be confused for reclaim at a glance, depending on how it is implemented. Do we have ACU wrecks in the game files by default?

@BlackYps mentioned in Discord that making them a lobby option would make them only appear in custom games. Not necessarily a bad thing just something to keep in mind.

Fairly easily done, my concern with ACU wrecks is it might imply to people they have a mass value and they should fight over the reclaim.

I considered this when making the initial model/texture but ultimately I waited too long to get started on April Fools stuff and decided to make one Tombstone better instead of 4 (even more) poorly made ones.

Yes, I'd need to check if they exist for every ACU but even if not I'm pretty sure they're just ACU meshes shaded like wrecks.
Oh! You know what would be cool? ACU wrecks that have the ACU kneeling like the GC while building. Doesn't solve the "looks like reclaim" issue but maybe that's less of a problem than I'm making it out to be.

Oh sorry forgot about this one.
I made last year's April Fools stuff into mods. They're very difficult to fill games with because so many people have modded games filtered out. Also I tried to get them ranked but was unable to, that's up to Creative Team.

Its an idea but some people will filter out games with sim mods and others just ignore games when sim mods are enabled (especially as there is no way to see if a game is ranked or not - they will just assume its not).
Lobby option would be the best imo -
Could the people that want it as an option (I read that as "yes, but not in my games") please state why? This helps for a productive discussion to better understand what the controversial parts of the feature are

It simply doesn't match the vibe of the game, as such it shouldn't be the default option. Still, should be a way to use it in custom lobbies if one wishes so without de-ranking the game.
Otherwise imagine you buy the game and you see this random ass wacky tombstones the moment someone dies. Ain't what you signed up for boss.

For me, my preferred lines are the ones that explicitly state who the killer was, regardless of how the death occured. But the sillier ones aren't a dealbreaker for me.

There is definitely an aesthetic mismatch with the tombstones as-is. Although there are potential workarounds also being discussed in this thread.
If anyone else would want to chime in on why they think this should or should not be implemented. This is your chance, especially if its a point that hasn't been brought up yet.

The problem with tombstones was that theyโre not reclaimable despite the game having the ACU wreck model by default
I donโt want them in the game but if I was to add them it would be mod of having acu wreck in the game

Do we even need a wreck? There is a large black crater already. Isn't the utility of the feature the map marker and the message?

Imo the tombstones are fun and if it's decided to keep them it doesn't bother me but I'd hate this to be overthought/overdone.
That old adage comes to mind, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

@BlackYps Figured it would make more sense than an actual tombstone. Can still give it the marker and quote. But I'm good with either, I just quite liked the feature and would love to see it come back.

I'm just trying to understand what exactly people like or dislike about the feature because we have:
- the actual tombstones
- the marker on the map
- the text that informs about who the killer was
- the text being funny
It's not an all or nothing situation where we have to take or leave the whole package

FWIW, we actually found these tombstones break the PhantomX mod's win conditions. When an ACU pops the rest of their forces don't disappear.
Didn't report it because we assumed they were reverting after this week.
Otherwise I don't have a horse in this race, but maybe another reason to make it optional.

Made some quick mockups of faction tombstones. UEF I'm pretty happy with, Aeon might need a few more features, Cybran I think I need to scrap and start over
No ideas for sera yet but it'd probably some weird floaty stuff.Tomorrow I'll try to test the ACU wrecks and get some screenshots of those.
