MapGen Selection Tool/Website
-
I got bored and finding good maps is hard so I made a website where you can generate and filter for many maps at once to quickly find maps to host.
Just look for a map you like and copy the seed into the client.

-
@sheppy great webiste! I have used it and honestly quite like it. But can you change the map size slider to display the size in km? I know 1024 is 20km and 512 is 10, but when wanting to generate sizes that are not standard it is a bit tedious
-
Time to make this the actual map gen. Plus: I second the chicken leg man above. Also, maybe consider making the dropdowns checkboxes so you could e.g. exclude "forest" for lagging the game.
-
@Nuggets thanks, I changed that:

Epsilon on the filter for MapSizes is 2.5 currently, I might change that in the future if we have more pregenerated maps.
I'm also now displaying the options for any give map in the big view if you click on it:

I also removed ONE_HYDRO_NO_MEX from the default random options :D, you can still select it manually though.

I love this.

Very convenient website! Thank you!

Have you considered some kind of ranking system, so that over time we can start accumulating really good ones?
-
It'd be great if you had a separate sub-site, where you can give it a seed (if you like the map), but let it iterate through different settings for mex and reclaim.
-
@indexlibrorum yeah people have suggested this, not only to dtermine individual maps but also settings. I am considering it
@fichom Shouldnt be too hard -

Just so you know changing any setting can lead to an entirely different map. There is no guarantee that changing the number of mexes gives you the same map with a different number of mexes.
-
@Sheikah Really? I just tried it with a few maps and changing the number of mexes or reclaim density did not seem to impact the map. Obviously seeds do not strongly correlate between style settings.
-
It may work for some versions of the generator but there is no guarantee it continues to do so in future versions.
