The current pre-release of the client ("pioneer" in the version) is only compatible to itself. So you can only play with other testers. Please be aware!

Change UTC time format to 24 hour clock and name location. Like London, England.

I used Bing quick ai answer and it said 14 UTC is 6pm my time. And then I come to my computer 12:30 pm and Tournament I signed up for is over and done with. Something i trained for over a week. This UTC is confusing and down right frustrating. A simple google search: https://i.ibb.co/Kjy499LY/Screenshot-2026-03-14-133603.png

A quick Gemini consultation tells me that 14 utc is 8 AM Saskatoon time

Im not sure why you search for 9pm Moscow time in your screenshot which is 18UTC

@QuantumTyphoon It's unfortunate that this happened but it is always UTC for every tournament we host, its standard practice. I don't see many others having issues with the UTC timezones so I don't plan on changing that as it will just cause more confusion.

Sorry but UTC is just something used globally so this complaint is just that you read a wrong source on the internet?
Me, every tourney, i type this in google search:

              image.png

I'm not going to tell you how you look up your stuff, but this doesn't warrant changing something used globally because you checked the wrong site

@Nuggets That works. I'll save that.

It is unfortunate. Your right @hybrid_ . But 14 utc my time is 8 am. So I have to wake up at least an hour before that on a Saturday morning. A Saturday of all days. Why not nudge it up to 4pm London, England time and give us North Americans time to wake up before a tourney.

Yes, let's forget about the eastern part of the world. Who cares? We could even make it easier by calling everything east of the US east coast Bielefeld. /irony off (hf searching to the non-germans!)

Eastern part of the world? You mean Hong Kong South Korea and Japan. 2 pm London. 10 pm Hong Kong. Smart aleck. I had not thought of that. But I've only had about 5 games with users from Hong Kong out of my 6k games.

                      Hello,
As others have already mentioned, UTC is the standardized time for every event on FAF, considering we don't have multiple servers and we all play on one client. Makes this the most sensible thing to use.

A simple method to coordinate time, is to figure how far or behind you are to UTC, once you figure that one out, calculating the time shouldn't be hard.

@QuantumTyphoon Unfortunately, there is no option when it will be convenient for everyone. In Russia, for example, there are 11 time zones. I know a lot of Russian players who live in +5/+6/+7 from Greenwich. And they have no problems with the start of the tournament. But they finish playing at 4 a.m. This is especially sensitive when the tournament is played on Sunday and you have to go to work on Monday. And since 90% of Russian players use VPN, you may not notice that they live in the East.

I can only suggest choosing the start time of the tournament by voting all participants (convenience for TD is a priority). For example, in the discord 2-3 days before the start of the tournament

Sorry for my English. I use translator

Sorry to say, but this doesn't work. I've tried. You end up with x ideas for the kick-off time, as everybody would choose the most comfy option given the time zone they are in. And some didn't even respond in time, but complained afterwards. So in the end the situation didn't change at all, but it did increase the workload for the TD pretty effectively.

There is a reason why the one-day events usually are held on a Saturday. Even if it's early or late for someone, they could rest afterwards. And getting up at 7 AM isn't that bad considering some of the guys living in AUS/NZ would start playing at 2 AM. Shoutout to the legends for actually doing it!

If FAF was a huge community with hundreds of thousands of active players, there would be regional tournaments for sure. As it is right now, it's simply not feasible.

If UTC isn't clear enough (perhaps the most universal human readable time indication) then we can always use unix timestamps so everyone has the same second all the time: 1773759478

I mean I can't fault the lad for struggling with timezones, because they're annoying and confusing, but thinking the fault lies with UTC, and not with the personal skillissue that is not being able to check what time it is, is wild.
