The current pre-release of the client ("pioneer" in the version) is only compatible to itself. So you can only play with other testers. Please be aware!

    • RE: Thoughts on the lots games and balance implications?

      I have some thoughts.

      Gods help us all.

T2 and T3 navy are too good. They scale much better than air and hover.

I am shocked to the core by the revelation that a unit which is specialized for a specific role and is an order of magnitude more expensive, beats units that are cheaper and are essentially trespassing. Shocked.

Snipes are a bit too strong. Perhaps, when an ACU hits 0 hp, it falls to the ground and becomes a crippled ACU. Crippled ACU cannot move, shoot, build, regen, or be repaired, but can absorb another 10k or 20k before it goes nuclear. Just an idea.

The ramblings of the clinically insane.

That's without considering the fact that balancing the game around the experience and playstyle of pro-players is quite possibly the worst way to go at it, for obvious reasons.

    • RE: Open Review of FAF Moderation

A reminder (as explained previously in the discord discussion that spawned this thread):
While we welcome suggestions to the FAF rules or feedback on the moderation system in general, we will not allow the discussion of specific reports or moderation cases. If you would like to discuss a specific ban you have a received or report you have filed, you may contact the moderation team through the discord channel, or send an email to moderation*faforever .com. (Replace * with @)

If this thread will start to include such discussions, or if it becomes uncivil, we will lock it.

@zhanghm18 said in Why does everything suck so much right now?:

Banning people who make personal attacks doesn't make community discussion worse, it just makes community communication more effective.

While the tone of some of these comments has been a point of continued irritation and disappointment for us, we are hesitant to police these threads too strongly.

Even when moderated with the best intentions, any action will inevitably result in accusations of censorship, despotism, and preferential treatment. Add to that the difficulty of determining when something has crossed the line—which we've seen before differs greatly between players—and we're back to mods getting called nazis or worse and a second batch of threads clamoring for our heads.

That's not to say that we're not keeping an active eye on this thread however, and we continue to internally discuss comments where necessary. If this thread further devolves into mudslinging, we'll reach a point where we will have to clear comments or lock the thread altogether.

This would be the worst outcome, because BlackYps has asked important questions that warrant discussions. I believe that such a discussion is not beyond what we may expect from our community.

@rachelgomez Why is it that this feels like it's written by ChatGPT? Is it because it is? This is just chatGPT, isn't it?

    • RE: Main problem of Supreme Commander

@thinker No, I've read your post. I am saying that your lack of experience playing the game (with or without mods) means you have not seen enough of the game to make any sweeping statements. Moreover, your inexperience is a big part of the problems you're facing. As Theweakie and Sainse explained, we suspect that a big part of your issues is your inexperience with the game, rather than any part of the design of the game itself.

This is not meant to be dismissive or insulting.

A comparison between a T2 mex and a T3 mobile Arty for example, makes no sense, if only because one of the two can move. If you take from this that it's 'more profitable' to invest in economy over units, you're not considering that mexes don't shoot and an enemy that made 20 tanks instead of a T2 mex will kill your mexes. Sure, in a vacuum it might be better to just invest in economy, but that works only when you get no pushback.

You're welcome to come play a few games against me where you can show me how "investing in the economy is much more profitable" and "war cannot compete with the economy". I predict that you'll find that having enemy tanks in your base does few wonders to your economy.

    • RE: Suggesting rule change: make immediately unpausing after a player asked for a pause against the rules.

@BlackYps Perhaps a system where a person can request a pause for a minute, or two minutes, which has to be accepted by vote. Don't allow the pause to be cancelled before, except by the person who initially requested the pause?

    • RE: Is this allowed?

@Sprouto said in Is this allowed?:

It's not 'micro' at all - it's just lax coding.

We can argue about whether or not this should be a thing. Being able to shoot the weapon sticking out of the water to damage the unit makes sense to me, and if that's the direction the devs want to go in to fix this 'bug' then that's all well and good. However, I am not speaking as to the reason why this happens, I am speaking about using the emergent mechanic in a way that gives an advantage to the player; that's micro.
