Yeah newer windows (10 and 11) don't completely shut down, so you have to restart instead.

Like this slate theme, just change color value of the input box and its text would go a long way.

RE: Dark Mode
Had a look for other themes, but many seem just outdated/broken. There were like 3-4 dark'ish themes in the updated version but each had some "plain" layout stuff or like in this post noted eye burning bright boxes. Perhaps one can be easily edited by simply changing two color values?

RE: A very rhythmic micro-stutter
I had a 3570k few years back, any microstutters I had were due to SW or HW issues, IMO they shouldn't be that noticeable.
Hence my listed suggestions to test if they can be removed. -
RE: A very rhythmic micro-stutter
Don't think it should be that obvious in frametimes as for the OP?
-
RE: A very rhythmic micro-stutter
Things I'd do in this order to find the issue:
- Reboot PC
- Try steam version
- Try FAF version without mods
- Update drivers, try rollback drivers (GPU at least), these preferrably with display driver uninstaller
- Update BIOS (or rollback if recently updated)
- Try fresh OS
- Try diff OS (e.g. if issues with Win 10, try Win 11 or 7)
- Start looking at potential HW issues

...and if you are bad at micro, just aim a bit front of where enemy group is going to be, place move order close to your ASF so they slow down, once a third-half of them are in contact with enemy ASF, press stop, ???, profit

RE: Username rules updates
Thank you for the constructive feedback and discussion.
We are proceeding with a three month rename interval for now.
We will monitor the situation for its impact and adjust if necessary. If a technical solution is implemented widely in FAF communication mediums (e.g. similar like discord unique handle), that allows better identification of players, we see no issue with going back to shorter rename periods.
Regarding the rule on similar names, the wording of the rule is as following:
- Usernames that impersonate others or are visually identical to other usernames, for example by exploiting visually similar characters, are not allowed.

Example of name inconsistency being a problem
Recently Sladow (trainer team lead at the time) asked me to fix the trainer team avatars.
I'm going to skip most of this because this issue is insanely easy to solve. Give Sladow a screenshot of both of the screens you posted and have him figure it out, because he will know who is on his team and what their names are. I can do it for you right now and I play like 1-3 games a week max.
Another solution which I also did when I was cleaning up avatars as PC. Remove all the people that have said avatar, announce it to said group, and wait for people to message you to give it back or give it if they never had it. This is even easier now that Discord exists. Coordinate with the Team Lead over people that may not be on Discord and to double check everything is kosher.
These solutions took me 5 minutes to think about.
Just a small comment as I find some of the arguments already funny at this stage.
In a store, at the cashier, would you like the cashier to manually radio check 30% of all the grocery prices for all the people in the queue? No? Would the cashier like to do it, probably not. Would the store like it to be that way, no? Would anyone? Maybe a new person who gets a job out of solving those price checks all day in and out.

RE: Username rules updates
Hey everyone,
We’ve spent the last two weeks discussing the feedback we received on our announcement. We thank those few of you who have provided concrete feedback and have done our best to address them with some changes.
The position of the moderation team is that the primary use of usernames is to tell users apart. If people are unable to do so or have to take additional steps (such as checking name history), then usernames are failing at this purpose. It has been made clear that this view is not unanimous among the community. Some consider the ability for frequent username changes an important way of self-expression and for creating a sense of community with FAF friends. We have weighed and discussed these arguments, but believe there are plenty of alternate ways to express yourself, such as the clan system. Therefore, the moderation team believes that user identification should not be compromised for the sake of having a humorous name.
The moderation team does not aim to create rules just to make the game less enjoyable. Our primary role is to address and prevent issues between players, many of which aren't visible to the player base due to the confidential nature of moderation. Examples include players changing usernames to avoid reports, imitating other players, or impersonating moderators to pressure other players to force name changes. Such issues make it very difficult for the moderation team to handle reports effectively and have led us to re-evaluate the current rules.
Additionally, recent reports and feedback, such as from Nuggets’ recent thread, highlighted inconsistencies in the application of rules regarding impersonation and similar usernames. Consequently, one of our ongoing projects is updating the rules page to make our guidelines clearer and less ambiguous. These changes are part of that broader effort.
Making changes in a community requires compromise between different parties, but some players have already indicated that any change to the current situation would be unacceptable. We encourage these players to consider our concerns and help us find a solution acceptable to all parties. Until we find a better way to handle usernames that make such rules unnecessary, we will continue with the proposed changes to the rules on name similarity and readability. One goal of these changes is to manage names that are purposely hard to tell apart. We have taken note of the comments explaining that updated wording of the rules remain unclear, and after internal discussion have reworded them:
- Usernames that impersonate others or are visually identical to other usernames, for example by exploiting visually similar characters, are not allowed.
We do not expect players to know each and every single username and will not issue (even temporary) bans for breaking these rules unless a rename is clearly malicious. Note that such rules have been part of the FAF guidelines for a while, and the relevant changes focus on clarifying them.
Regarding the changes on how often a name can be changed, we are considering a compromise of one change every six months, with a similar protection period for player names. We welcome further feedback on these limits and will keep an eye on this thread to see if anyone brings up any important ideas or suggestions that we haven’t yet discussed. We thank everyone who has constructively participated in the discussion.
Best regards,
The FAF Moderation Team -

Username rules updates
Hey everyone,
The topic of username rules has sparked recent debate. The rule regarding user-impersonation in particular has been criticized as vague and applied unequally, which has prompted us to review it with the moderation and administrative teams. We recognize moderation of usernames could be further clarified, so we've decided on the following changes in order to address some of these concerns, while preserving the ability for users to rename themselves.
First a short summary of the changes, with more detailed info and reasoning below.
Summary
Changes to the rules regarding usernames have been made, and we believe these changes strike the right balance between clarity and flexibility.
Usernames are not allowed if they:
- Are difficult to distinguish from other usernames or otherwise too similar to other usernames
- Exploit visually similar characters, such as 'l', 'I', '1', 'O', and '0', or are otherwise intentionally designed to be difficult to read, are not allowed.
- Were previously owned by another player in the previous 6 months
- Are homophobic, racist, political, or otherwise offensive
Usernames can be renamed:
- Once every year
We'd like feedback on:
- When renaming an account is required due to rule breaking, should the account be locked until the account owner contacts the moderation team, or should the account be reverted to the last used acceptable username?
Changes in detail
What makes changes to these rules difficult is that we have to balance the wants and needs of several groups within the community. On the one hand, we recognize that in our small community knowing who you're playing with is important. Reputation matters, especially in a close-knit community like ours. Frequent name changes have made it hard to keep track of who's who, and can even make in-game communication difficult when you have players refer to others by their old names. It’s even created issues for moderation, where reports for one person were meant for another player, or creating additional work because a user in a screenshot has changed their name four times since, or even it’s not the player they think but a username that looks identical. Because of this, we have internally discussed the possibility of removing the rename function altogether.
On the other hand, there are genuine reasons for why people would like to change their username, and in many cases these username changes haven’t led to any issues. We certainly don’t wish our playerbase to be forever locked into a username they may have chosen as a 14 year old, for example. Because of this, we've decided to make changes to the rules rather than doing away with the feature altogether.
Rule changes
Readability
We think it is very important that usernames are unique and easy to read, because players should be easily able to distinguish, recognize, and mention each other. For this reason, we are changing the rules to reflect this. Usernames that are difficult to distinguish from other usernames may no longer be used. This includes usernames that exploit visually similar characters, such as 'l', 'I', '1', 'O', and '0', or are otherwise intentionally designed to be difficult to read.
We're also keeping an eye out for usernames that are otherwise too similar to other usernames. This rule is slightly more of a gray area, because usernames could technically be visually distinguishable yet still be too similar to other usernames. Generally speaking, if your username is not a standard word or phrase, or it's based on another user's name, you might have to change it. Because it is difficult to make very rigid rules about this, the moderation team will handle those on a case-by-case basis. To keep things fair, these decisions will be handled by internal discussions within the moderation team, and not just by one moderator on their own.
Renaming
We're also making some changes to the option to change your username. Previously, our rules against impersonation were enforced in such a way that players could change their username while keeping some claim to their original username. We do not think that is fair, because this system could lead to a player 'claiming' a whole list of usernames they used previously. However, we also had to consider that we are a relatively small community, and players often know many of the other players of their same rating bracket. Because of this, we see the need for changes that will reduce the frequency with which names can be changed, but also make sure that players are not easily mistaken for another if they use a previously used username
As such, we will be limiting the ability to change your username to once per year. We will maintain the current policy of making previously used usernames unusable for six months, meaning that another player may not immediately pick up the name that has now been freed up. This grace period will give the community some time to get used to seeing players under a new name, and helps mitigate player-impersonation. Be aware that this means that changing your username might mean that you lose that name permanently: your old username will become available several months before you are able to rename again.
Inappropriate usernames
We haven't made any changes to the rules regarding inappropriate usernames, as we think those are working well. These rules ban names that are racist, homophobic, political, or otherwise offensive or inappropriate. Such usernames are judged on a case-by-case basis by the moderation team.
Moderation
Although seriously offensive usernames—as well as intentionally and repeatedly breaking these rules—may result in a ban, we think it’s excessive to issue bans for usernames that do not meet these standards. Instead, we will address the issue by forcing a rename of the account.
Previously, we've locked accounts with a message to contact a moderator to rename the account. This was primarily a result of a lack of tools, as we do not have the capability to lock specific accounts out of renaming. This method is far from ideal. It forces players to get in touch with a moderator through an external system, and they’re completely locked out of playing until our volunteer staff can get to their request. We're thinking about replacing this system by renaming the user to their last used acceptable username instead. Please let us know if you have other ideas!
Since the moderators are volunteers too, we don’t intend to spend our limited time executing a naming-purge. We know of a few accounts which have recently changed their usernames to ones that are difficult to distinguish from other users though, and those will soon have their accounts renamed to their latest compliant username. For any other accounts, we will take action as we notice them and will continue depending on the community to file reports when they notice a rule is being broken.
Feedback
Got questions or thoughts? Let us know, constructive comments welcomed!
The rules page will be updated based on initial feedback around this change.Cheers,

RE: FPS abruptly becomes like 10
Few years ago I had similar issues with a specific motherboard when using Win 10, Win 7 was fine.
I tried changing everything else besides the motherboard itself (CPU, RAM, GPU, Fresh OS install, drivers, BIOS etc.), only going back to Win 7 fixed it.First few minutes were fine with the occasional FPS drop, but 10-15 min in it usually started dropping to single digits now and then, with 30min+ completely unplayable.
So I'd start with trying the steam version of the game, does it work there or not?
Then ofcourse the usual issue finding:
- Temps? Other resource usage oddities?
- Fresh install of base game + FAF (also deletion of gamedata folder and make sure no mods)
- Drivers?
- BIOS update?
- Any other applications with similar issues?
- Fresh OS
- after this mostly hardware debugging/incompatibility debugging left
Just a matter of narrowing it down one by one by eliminating possible problem sources.

RE: Nucleus genius and ddos of FAF. (ru original is below)
Locking this as quality of discussion not exactly high nor productive, and as discussing moderation actions in public is not allowed (as we can see how well this thread is already doing). From the thread author hoping for someone to die of an illness is just over the line.
To briefly comment the first post, the moderation team is a team, actions are more often than not discussed as a team and thus taken as a team. Furthermore the appeal system is in place where you can get the team lead and moderation team to review any bans if you feel you've been mistreated contrary to the community rules and policies in place.
In this particular case the ban history does not consist solely of one moderator's actions, and the perma ban resulted eventually from repeatable (and unchanged) bad behavior and other offenses where many other community members have been affected. If anything I'd say FAF moderation is quite lenient and gives multiple chances for users to improve upon their behavior, perma bans are the last resort.

RE: 7945HX scores 74 in the FAF CPU test
They boost to almost the same frequency, and as the load is single threaded very short time, the laptop power & thermal constraint doesn't play that big of a role in the test.
