Formation move on air f*ing up pathfinding
-
I finally decided to post this to ask if others have this aswell and if there is a fix for it.
Ages ago a change to air was implemented so that air units move in a kind of blob instead of a line, which was a very good change. But over the years i've had this one issue more and more often.
When moving air (any air, can be fighters, bombers, gunships or whatever) there is always a chance that they want to form up on a unit that just rolled of the factory. Meaning that for example if you lock a transport with your 2 inties at the front and the one at the back (with the select all fighters hotkey) the 2 inties will literally fly back to your base, the one in the base randomly flying at 20% speed waiting for the others to catch up, to then turn around to target the transport (by which time it is litearlly an hour too late).
This also happens with move commands. You want to move your asf to the front? Better watch out that they dont randomly fly back to form up on a new asf at base. This is happening almost every game. I'd say about 8/10 for me. I don't know why but it feels like the frequency of this happening is increasing (although might be because i am playing more often than before). When this is happening i can barely hold back the alt+f4 out of the game because it is the most annoying shit for me at the moment.
So anyway, does anybody else also have this or found a way around this? Ofc a workaround could be to not select all fighters and only onscreen, but that forces you to look at the specific position you want to select the units, so barely considerable as a workaround

Don't hold in the mouse button while dragging.
-
I never mentioned dragging. It is litearlly clicking a move command or clicking attack on something
-
Ctrl+right click to order a formation move was removed, so I don't know how you can be accidentally doing it.
-
Its not like its just me + can easily reproduce it every game

This is weird af, i never noticed anything like this. And it just works on a simple move command that involves a few inties one of which is fresh out of factory or just far from the others? No formation move involved, no assist command?
-
Yea, I've definitely noticed this. I've missed many drops because of the ASF deciding to go back to base and form up instead of just following the attack or move order. It started at least a few months ago. Something has 100% changed, and it IS happening on simple clicks, not click & drags. I think Nuggets is right that it has to do with selecting ASF in the field and ASF fresh off the factory together.

So the issue presents when the unit is "fresh from factory" rather than just far. I know it's not a solution, but in the meantime have you tried distributing orders? Maybe until this gets fixed your transports will be saved

Distributing order does indeed work, but you would have to click that every single time for it to be a fix, which i do not consider to be a fix (you cant watch your air movement all the time when a lot is going on to manually "fix" the pathfinding)
