Chicken Storm

Why would you base your balance around not accounting for micro on what is very clearly intended to be a centerpiece unit? Do we begin balancing fatboys around no micro too?
There are some niche scenarios where the storm will get huge value but in most practical situations you would prefer a gc, it has insane utility not only due to the t4 vs t4 micro but also with the added benefit of getting much stronger veterancy hp boosts. It doesn’t make sense to nerf something in a unit when that unit is not even recognized as being the best in its class while leaving other units untouched

Evidently not considering it doesn’t manage to push chicken above gc in general utility, you would just be making a worse t4 worse

Some units are better than others in specific scenarios, idk what to tell you.
The storm is part of the chicken. Take the gc vs chicken example. The chicken dies in a fanasy base and does 240k damage (fantasy, because it will never do this much). Gc would even die to the same amount of damage the chicken died to and does inifnite damage instead!
Essentially what im trying to say is you cant just only look at one feature of the chicken and ingore the rest. Also you paint the storm as OP but that can also be a negative if it dies in your own army. -
and no relevant difference if the storm did 30k damage potential as that would still be enough to more than cover the difference between it and stronger exp anything more is just overkill
Your statement only makes sense if people were broadly in agreement that chicken now is the best direct-fire t4 for value and needed to be adjusted in some way to nerf the faction. Nobody thinks that, so saying “it would still be enough to cover the difference” makes no sense because I’m challenging the idea that there even is a difference in the first place. If a difference doesn’t exist, the whole question of nerfing is pointless.

you pay for the gc, not the tractor beams. remove the tractor beams
-
Fact: Nobody puts chicken without storm above or equal to gc
Fact: Nobody puts chicken including the supplementary benefit of the storm above or equal to gc
Therefore: No need to nerf a 3.5% cheaper t4, the storm isn’t impactful enough to change anything about the valuation of the unit.

No reason to nerf storm, close topic pls

Also I request a Sera buff as compensation for morale damage from reading this

Ironically it's waffelznoob and his jokes that point out the main difference between our thinking.
You seem to think that the storm is a weapon of the Ythotha, I and believe its a separate entity/unit that is only created by the Ythotha.
The thinking that the storm is somehow a weapon of the Ythotha is like thinking that a percy is part of a factory because its created by it.
Yeah i also think crash damage of air units is a separate entity

Did you also know that when you make a satellite building you get a free satellite that does infinite damage over time? I mean, i just paid for the building but that thing pops out for FREE and can go anywhere
-
Storm is “another unit” because that’s the game code solution to making it work when the chicken is dead what kinda backward logic are you trying to use to justify this weird urge to nerf an ability that nobody has a problem with
-
Because as a mechanic the storm sucks, its only real effect on the game is slow you down, ok a storm now exists and we just have to wait 30 seconds before we can move on with the game. or to reward brain rot suicide tactics.

I guess that boils down to what this discussion is about. It's not about the damage. Even if it was two times more or less, you'd not want to walk through it. Instead, I think it is about slowing down the game by denying an area for 30 seconds.
Maybe another direction to look at is the duration of the storm, instead of emphasizing the damage output. The damage output is, uuhh - not quite reliable. But its ability to deny an area is. What if the storm only lasts 10 seconds? Would that solve your problems with it?
-
@jip Imo that would certainly be an improvement

I personally don't think we see enough area denial, and chicken storms certainly make attacking a Seraphim position strategically different. People talk about a chicken advancing and dying, but I don't think they're nearly as powerful in that respect as if you are falling back, precisely because enemies can't follow you through the storm. I would be sad to see the timer reduced to a mere 10 seconds.
