What should the diamond be? The master? You’ll go out of options way before grandmaster.
-
what diamond?
what master? -
the people cant know what is army rank?
they must learn more about world....forum isnt work? news menu in faf client?
but the logic and the lexicon and dictionary is working...these title is better than a medalion...
-
These ranks only make sense in one country (I assume usa here). Non-military people can't put them into order.
So no, thank you.
-
usa, and great britain, but all country have this rank with their own language.
its not military "knowledge", its basic knowledge.
people in z-generation dont know that captain is bigger than corporal? my god....
but we can replace example brigadier.if u havent sports knowlege u dont understand gold and silver, bronze too...
Is it working in CS, nobody complaining about military rank.
-
@miki1900 It shouldn’t be what you personally think is best, but what the majority think. Given the Olympics and sporting events more generally, most people are familiar with Bronze < Silver < Gold, and even if they aren’t they would have a decent idea based on market values or other video games (which typically have gold being harder to get/more valuable than silver), far more so than the specific hierarchy of particular US military ranks.
As another example, personally I’d prefer 1 to be weaker than 4 but if a majority thinks that 1 is stronger than 4 then by similar logic it makes sense to have rankings based on the current way around.

Have to agree with the most common argument here - military rank is not common knowledge at all. Not even for the populace of the countries that use them.
At best, you can argue people kinda understand the concept of captain (someone who has a larger number of men under his arm), admiral (controls big naval army) and general (controls big land army). And that's also mostly skewed from popular media (because that's how most get their knowledge). So yeah, neither common (in its naming scheme), nor common knowledge.
The "material" badges are common place in a lot of games to represent competitive rank. I'm sure 95% of the children populace would sooner understand if you told them you were "diamond" rank rather than "corporal" or whatever.
Also, as already mentioned, there's not only 3 tiers (bronze, silver, gold) to the FAF's ranking system, there's 6 (bronze, silver, gold, diamond, master, grandmaster).
Most games have ties to the Elo system, which, although not used by FAF, is the most prominent and actually well known system to rank competitive mastery. And it has its roots in chess, from which the "master" and "grandmaster" titles are derived from.

u dont know, that captain is bigger than corporal?
im from central europe too, and its a basic knowledge....
-
Still ignoring the fact there's more than just bronze/silver/gold. If you like the idea so much, expand what on Diamond, Master, and Grandmaster rankings should be called.
-
do u need more army rank?
i write more, and u will be happy then? -
yeah, but diamond there isnt sports.
in CS majority like the military rank, everybody know that.
-
and where is diamond in sports?
everybody knows that gold is bigger than silver,
and everybody knows that captain is bigger than corporal -
Even the topic aside if your system is better than the current one (which i think is dumb). You still have not made any suggestions for diamond, master and grandmaster
-
There are a lot of military ranks. Do u want more? Why if the majority dont know, that major is bigger than captain?
-
I never knew that military ranks were based on a persons height
-
To be honest, I think it's based on weight.
