    • RE: why so many duel gap lobbies?

      if you only got time for 1 or 2 matches in the evening after work gap is fast and easy. you usally dont need to wait too long till the lobby fills and you can get a little gud on the map bcs you train the same bo's over and over again. i played so much gap just bcs the lobby is 9/12 and you know k, cool, i can play 2 matches maybe this evening and dont have to wait 30 min in lobby just the host time outs or somebody lags or somebody alt f4 bcs he dont likes his spawn.

      never the less id wish other maps would be played more often, and as mentioned matchmaker queue could be a better choice (for me as well). but then again it has something to it, using those highly specific bo's and see who performs it better or see someone having sucess by breaking the meta.

      just my opinion as a casual 1300 in coustom who is underperfoming in air all the time 🐷

      stealth on asf is indeed a nice gimmick but in the end it boils down to who got more asf and makes better micro i think. Also regulary scouting is mandatory all the time. but i understand your feelings about this.

      in the beginning i always thought, why i should pick anything else than cybran? hives, stealth, telemazer, corsair, mantis, etc..., remembers me of those noob gaps where everybody picks cybran. but honestly after 2 k matches i had my "omg this is op" phase with every faction and still got the feeling i really dont know that much about how to exploit which faction strength when and where. and this is why im happy that pro players with years of xp and multiple k of matches making the balance.

      I play faf since january this year and posted something here 3 months ago.
      I got now to my 1000 ranking with ~ 250 games (i mystified 1000 rank or im more a true 600/700). i realized the first big rank increase came, when i learned t1 spam. Maybe there could be a non - compulsive tutorial series where like 4 vs 4 greys get matched, or against an AI. first mission could be like spam 200 t1 tanks in the first 10 minutes or so. Maybe some Missions that could be won by achieving some stats not beating the opponent. Another mission could be scoop all the mass in setons middle till minute 4 maybe. some things i had to realize to play better (and i dont feel like i am a good player now, but indeed better than 3 months ago): t1 spam, use ACU in field, reclaim like a dustsucker, dont force teching as fast as possible and go full stall, pd creeps....
      Lol, dual gap grey matches be like: front player at min 12 walks around with his whole batillion of 8 Pillars, bcs t2 is better than t1, air player builds his 5th t2 factory to spam more crossfires, navy player keeps spamming t1 subs, eco stalling -350 mass.... no cringe here we all had to learn:P
      but my point is, maybe there could be missions, that can be won by using standart tactics and clear up misconceptions that come form playing against the ai. Players could start at -200 and get to 0 or 200 by playing these missions. in those emissions the most popular maps could be introduced: (as i observed) Dual Gap, Astro Crater, Setons Clutch, Gap of Rohan, Canis River maybe?

      i think its the most competetive game mode bcs you have to do everything at once and when you are ranked well and you or your opponent can keep up you have to prioritize some areas and make sacrifices in other. although i think casual try hards as me could learn the most from 1v1 ladder its just too stressful. when i come online i want my faf game exerience which i admit is most times to gun com spam my lane in team games. nothing wrong with 1v1 i think, just not the thing im searching for. 10 - 15 mins of adrenaline rush and it shows me too fast the borders of my inferior gameplay. i want to play not to work. ( which is over all my problem with competitive online gaming) meanwhile i think only 1v1 ranks really matters and maybe really high coustom

      its legacy of the game bcs they balanced it and its an asymmetrical rts. different factions perform different on different maps in different phases of the game. we always have to look at the whole context of the faction. aeon got shielded t2 unit obsidian and a hover shield f e. also (i think it was mentioned) bigger shield =/= better. the aeon shield is a smaller hitbox in general, i cant do the math but you shouold look at the shield per squaremeter so to say 🍕

      Hey there,

      sorry i didnt read the whole thread, maybe my points where mentioned before.
      I play sup com since 2007 with breaks. Starting agianst ai, later so lan with friends, sorian ai and with the pandemic i started loud.
      so with the new pc in december i finally started playing faf. I think the learning curve is not the thing although its hard.

      one thing is, and there cant be done much about i think, that there are always disconnects, desyncs and hard lags, so a 40 min match lasts in real time 1 h 30 min. often players write into the chat that they dont want to anymore and suicide bcs your monkeylord on dual gap needs 20 minutes to the other side.

      Another thing is the team balance. Noobs like me want to play fast and some more experienced players exploit this. i often see, that some 500 - 700 players with summed up 1000 matches are together in one team against all grey noobs. the game balance shows 86% or somewhat because there is someone with 22 games and a 900 or so. When u mention this u get kicked. Its not very rewarding to play such an autoloose match against those seal clubbers because they are hard trying to get 800 rating.

      sometimes there are hosts with like 800 rating and a few hundred matches and they hosting matches like: only noobs <500 <100 games, this is just stupid.

      i admit i dont know what can be done about this, you need at least maybe 50 matches too recognize those problems and speak about it in the lobby.

      but anyway, i played now 60 games and im here to stay=) the all grey kindergarden idea is nice its a like a safe space =D1905-safe-space.jpg

      they also make,- we call them mines now- a more valuable target( like jip explained), even more in a highly dense mine cluster, also destroying storage will remove all the mass in it i think, which can be pretty crucial when you want to pump a t4 trough. its also part of the game tactics, bcs your base gets more complex and you have more to loose. the potential complexity of your main and side bases matter, bcs you need to think about your resource allocation and how much you may invest into defending it. they diversify your mass infrastructure and bring tactical depth to the game. the auto ring for the t2 upgrade is already pretty convenient.

      but they still buy you time, even though if they get crushed early they took the damage till they collapse and helping your units to move forward. making a t2 mobile shield first often is a life insurance for your front commander. in masses you can protect your fatty, sera shield is good to protect sniper bots and aeon hover shields are a nice addition to their other t2 hover units, so you can get away with destroyer only spam on navy(in certain situations). and they are not countered by t1 arty if your shielded units outrange it:) thats at least how i use them, could be completly wrong bcs im one of the joest joes

      @zukko i think restricting game options or gameplay for beginners just facilitates bad habits which will be hard to overcome later. it will be hard to include reclaim when you are not used to it since day 1.

      im still fallen in love with the idea of challenges, that will teach you basic strategies and moves. they can be easy to pass but hard to master. so beginners will understand fast and pass with bronze, but pros will struggle to get platin and compete for the best time / results (like in trackmania) maybe a little 5 mission campaign before you can play ranked. Or thin out the existing campaign to a existential tutorial.

      i mean some beginners got friedns who are pretty good in the game and they learn fast. but mine still try to convince me from league of legends and i know no one personally who plays this game.

      sometimes some matches take a while to get ranked, i think it happens when somebody stays in game after the match is over, bcs hes afk or forgets about it. when you now play your next game and win it seems your ranking isnt increased at all.

      the difference in ranking points you get depends on the peoples rank, the balance % and your total games played. When the balance is against you and you win you get more points. when you are the lowest rank in lobby and win you get more points. the lesser games you played the more volatile your rank is bcs the system isnt sure about your skill level yet. also you get more points in games with less players.

      its basic statistics, the more often you repeat something the more stable is the result or smthng:P just play many different maps, map gen and tmm, this will make you truly better, not perfectioning your super tight gap bo

      i dont know if the map gen already works like this, but maybe there could be shematic presets of proven map patterns which you can modify trough certain variables. Dual Gap Style (sorry), setons style, plateu corners, plateu mids, river, lake whatever. boiled down to its main characteristics which are proven trough 1000s of matches to be a gud map. e.g. its basically canis but looks flat and empty like crater at first. then let map gen do its magic in modifiying it to a new map with the choosen parameters. it would somehow defy the whole point of having a mapgen but in theory the aim would be get new but more predictable outcomes.

      ofc the possibility to create maps out of nothing should still be the main feature.

      When he joins the lobby it wents down. Is he hackerman? I found old forum posts where a player named paralon ist listed for tournaments. He does that all the time, joining lobbies and they going down.

      i dont understand the apporach why a game should be balanced around the capabilities of mediocore players. you are always free to make 1k max lobbies or what ever (sry i dont want to assume anybodys rating or ingame capabilities:P). but why it should be balanced for people who doesnt even understand how to play flowing economy, or who are just playing inefficient and spamming t2 pds by default around mexes and not even reclaiming or that are on their endless eco scale trip (dont forget to build 100 e storage like a pro). to many matches lasts too long because nobody uses hard fighted advantages and instead going for "35 min t4 rush". you are always free to play like this but you cant complain about that you cant keep up like this.

      its about stability not sheer net speed or bandwith. but atm the con seems to have genreal issues, connections between players fail and its neither ones fault, just seach the forum for different threads about this topic. but as far as i know you can play lagfree with a 300 ms ping as long you dont have packet loss. its this way because the game checks every tick every players actions, its not like in fps games where the game just assume that when you have packet loss that you might be just keeping on pressing the w key. being on cable solves many con problems becaus you garantuee a stable connection in your houshold at least.
