need some help with editing unit positions
-
hi
i was wondering if anyone could helpe me how to edit unit positions. the reason i am asking is because while using a mod. some of the units when placed are unaligned and are pointing like 45 degrees to the left. the mod also does this to many of the vanilla and buildings from other mods mainly point defense buildings. i have tried to see if i could find anything off in the mod files but its quite the headache going throug littleral every map looking at units and trying to identify at which unit i'm looking at. so i was wondering if anyone would be so kind to help me on the way? i'm pretty new to modding to maybe my lack of general knowledge is what is stopping me form finding the info i need. so any and all help would be appreciated! i have added i screenshot to better show what i mean. the mod in question is total mayhem found on FAF app.

Hi, you can only edit the unit's orientation in the mesh, so via Blender. The bone model needs to be adjusted. Here's an example from Blender:

so no way of editing it by changing some values? guess time to download blender then. thanks for the advice!

Feel free to stop by FAF's Discord. They can help you get the right tools. Learning the applications isn't quite as easy, though. Good luck

i'll try the discord as well. because blender is refusing to load any of the files for now. thanks for the speedy reply! cheers dude!

You will need the following information: SupCom_Import_Export_Blender Python scripts to import and export Supreme Commander units (.scm) and animations (.sca) in Blender. Unfortunately, I don't have it to hand right now. @CDRMV He could also provide you with the data on his Discord. Perhaps you could visit his project. You'll find some good explanations there, too. https://forum.faforever.com/topic/6034/commander-survival-kit-a-new-sim-mod/238 Ask him, he also helps

thank you for the heads up. i managed to get a working script to import and export files. at least the import seems to work. now i trying to figure out how my edits appear in game. whenever i do an edit to rotate a unit on its z axis and try to export it, nothing seems to change. when i open the file i edited it remained in the same position from before my edits. so my changes are obviously not coming through. so probably doing something wrong myself. i'll try to reach out to the one you mentioned as well as trying myself.

There was a FAF patch years ago which rotated the default position of point defence. If you can find that in the GitHub that'll be a good start. I don't think any model or bone changes are required.

@Zanryo
It doesn't has anything to do with the Models. So you dont need to Change thier Bones. The Rotation is caused by Code which spawns the Units If you Build them in this Direction. Personally I dont have study the Code of so much but it hast Something to do with the Categories as well. As I Said on my Post related to the Commander Survival Kit Nomander already leads you to the right Direction to find an Solution for it. I already looking Forward for this Solution because I want to add it into my own Mods as well. Personally I think this Rotation Feature of Defenses should be an Setting in the Lobby Option. -
