Nvidia driver performance problem
-
@IpsilonX The old driver 27.21.14.5751 from november works.
-
@Skha I've been using the one from Dec 2nd (457.51) with little issue (if you move the mouse a LOT for a while it'll start to hiccup, but that's about it)
Gonna be testing the one that came out on March 16th and will update it here.Update: Still causes issues. Have decided to change the polling rate to 125, as that seems to completely resolve the stuttering without having to change the driver again
-
Guys, it's going to be fixed in the next driver!!!
-
Well well, isn't that a surprise ^^
Was just about to mention I've never had any nvidia driver problems untill yesterday, which was weird as I've been using that driver for several weeks without problems as well. No idea how it suddenly, without any sort of update, caused sound issues in the game and even in the lobby. Just reverted back to driver version 457.09 using the driver's "clean install" function which fixed everything for now.
Still good to see it's getting solved the proper way.
I'll keep this driver install as backup though -
NVidia released a new driver (466.11) on April 14 which they claim fixes the supcom stuttering issue:
[Supreme Commander/Supreme Commander 2]: The games experience low FPS. [3231218/ 3230880]
http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/466.11/466.11-win10-win8-win7-release-notes.pdf
However we are getting mixed reports from players about its effectiveness.
If you upgrade the driver and turn off the ui fix mod, do you still get an issue?
Don't forget:
Laticlave has helpfully made a UI mod titled "Nvidia fix" to correct the driver issue until we can get a proper patch out. Feel free to download it from the vault!
-
I updated the NVidia new driver (466.11) and removed the ui mod nvidiafix. I did not find any problems.
-
Latest Nvidia driver installed and mod removed. So far so good after one game, no issues at all.
-
same as the two above.

I tried this and removed the nvidia fix mod. The issue was much improved but it still remained.
I believe it's because I have two monitors. When I unplug my second monitor it works fine. If I plug it back in, it instantly has the fps stutter again. Also, using the nvidia fix mod or the console command instantly fixes it again.
If anyone else with multiple monitors can do some testing that would be nice. The easiest way is with rapid scrolling in/out whilst moving the mouse side to side with a few air units on screen.
I have reported my findings to nvidia.

Looks like with update 496.13 the bug is back again, can others confirm?

I saw some people in chat the other day saying it was. I haven't updated my drivers yet to the newest because of that so the 472.12 I am on are working just fine. I'm scared to update lol
-
@lightbearer Yes 472.12 is working great, 496.13 has the bug again.
I fear a lot of users are going to update and then have a hard time. -
I was actually just reading through all the unread posts since I haven't really been on the forums since I joined and noticed another post about the same thing from a few days ago. Nvidia fix mod is apparently the solution. I just stay on the old drivers since that's what the guy who showed me this game and trained me suggested but if the mod works I may give that a go....although like the saying says if it ain't broke, don't fix it lol

We're going to add the 'Nvidia fix' to the base repository with the next patch 3726 on the 26th of November.

Glad I went searching through the FAQs. I spent a couple hours in sandbox tonight and could not figure out why I was lagging in effectively a single player game. My laptop is more or less top of the line (though I am on a wireless net). I opened up the aforementioned Nvidia service app from Task Manager, then clicked into it for the Services menu. I disabled 'Nvidia Display Container LS' in the Services menu, and now my game is smooth as butter.

Hi can you explain how to adjust the above please. I’m not seeing “nvidia display container LS” as a option

I will close and unpin this extremely outdated thread:
To sum it up for whoever finds this thread by any search term:
- The UI mod "Nvidia fix" was integrated into FAF
- The latest nvidia driver https://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx has fixed the issue as well
If you encounter technical issues, make a new thread and post your log.
