Supreme Commander remaster is possible!
-
Pay attention to the HORU channel. I believe that these are heroes who are able to make a remaster of the Supreme Commander.
They have technological solutions that are needed for Supreme Commander. Watch the tech demo:
Demo1
Demo2Who owns the rights to models, textures, etc. from Supreme commander Forge Alliance? Nordic Games?
From past topics, Nordic responded to FAF requests and can a compromise be found with them?
Kickstarter remaster company of Supreme commander with developers from HORU + large fan base from FAF. I assume that it will be possible to get about one million dollars and this is the minimum amount.

- This is ancient.
- This is just a tech demo. Please show me a finished product where they use this.
- Supreme Commanders main problem is not the amount of units rendered on the screen. That was already proven by games like Ashes of Singularity. The problem is building a deterministic multi threaded physics engine that calculates projectiles, hit boxes, ai movement etc. Multi-threading is not a problem, but deterministic multi-threading so that it runs in sync on all multiplayer participants.
- To our knowledge the game source code is gone forever. A remaster would be a rewrite.
- According to Chris Taylor Supreme Commander costs where over 10 million USD in 2006! You won't get far with 1 million USD today.
- People who play today, are mostly happy with the game. A remaster will not attract many new players. The game is difficult, the story is lame, the game mechanics are mostly unsuitable for esports. We have roughly 20.000 monthly players. They'd all need to spend 50$ so we end up with a million...

Yes, you are right about everything. But let me add some positive points.
yes, 1 million dollars to port SCFA to another engine is not enough if we mean the US/Canada. And if we consider the CIS countries, then the developers there receive less remuneration and I believe that there is a chance to raise a sufficient amount for the kickstarter (Planetary Anihilation raised 2 million on the kickstarter). HORU developers from Ukraine. It will reduce development cost.

if you don't try you won't know)
I'm not saying it will work 100%, but I think there is a chance.
What do I need to be successful:- If models, textures, maps, sounds, etc. belong to Nordic Games, it is necessary to conclude a mutually beneficial agreement with them for the use of game resources in the remaster.
- Transfer development to countries where developer time costs less. Find a strong development team.
- Make evaluation of the project.
- Launch a kickstarter company. If you fail to rise the required amount, then distribute the money back to the bakers.
If we fail, we have NOTHING to lose
-
I'd rather donate some dollarinios to FAF tournaments than go and try porting supcom. Way better return not to mention the odds.

Then we lost 1 mio. $ and damaged the rts genre and sup com as a brand, making sure there'll never be a commercial successor.
-
nothing to lose seems to imply time has no value
-
Best FA can hope is a “remaster” that cleans UI code and adds 3 Xbox Exclusive Units maybe new maps.
-
As someone who has been in the HORU discord for some time, I have quite a bit a faith in the project. GlassBeaver, the mastermind behind the game, really has demonstrated the skills to pull this off. He has mentioned that he does not intend to officially support modding, but it to me that was not a definitive, so you never know
-
Rendering large amounts of units on screen is not the problem. Late game Stellaris makes Seton’s ASF swarms look tame and they manage it.
-
Nobody mentioned Sanctuary, yet?
Closest we will get with a remaster I guess.
-
Giving Supcom an Unreal 4 port would probably mean that a portion of the playerbase could struggle to run it. I used to play only Supcom on my old laptop because it couldn’t run other games at acceptable resolutions and frame rates
-
I didn't know that Visionik and Shio left the project. You were right, without Visionik and Shio we can't do it. The topic can be closed.

Nobody mentions sanctuary due to the retarded shit they tried pulling off with FAF.

Nobody mentions sanctuary because it's not a remaster.
Not sure why some people try establish a stab-in-the-back myth regarding to Sanctuary.
Everybody is free to choose a project he likes. Many people left FAF before sanctuary even existed and many people will leave regardless of Sanctuary for all kinds of reasons. -
Trying to use both main FAF discord servers to promote and gather funds for their own game is a rather shitty move in my books.

I envy the developers of Sanctuary. Raise a lot of money on Kickstarter. It doesn't matter if they make a good game or not, the main thing is that they will be engaged in a high-paying hobby. They don't have to go to boring full-time jobs.
Dear @brutus5000, Sanctuary devs do it and don't whine about it being impossible.
I wish them to raise $ 1 million dollars on kickstarter.) -
Sanctuary would tell you it was impossible to do anything in your OP. You don’t understand the expenses involved with ip rights.
-
@nflanders they have raise no money on Kickstarter as their camping on their isn't even live yet. thier is no market for RTS games like supcom in this day in age.
-
Would have better luck with an fps supcom spin-off where you play as some sort of a human piloted mech marine than a proper remastered rts supcom. I’m picturing that with the Titanfall engine and now I kinda want it.
