Command bug where units go the wrong direction

I have noticed sometimes, especially with air units, they not only fail to respond to move commands but actually go in the opposite direction. Is it known what causes this or if there is a solution, besides literally always shift-g moving your air units?

See replay 19263189 at about 8:50. If you view from my perspective and hold shift to see the orders, I clearly give a move command to the north, but my inties fly in the opposite direction.

This happens a lot with zthuees

95% sure you just pressed formation move (hold ctrl while issuing command)

Watched replay an seen how there is 1 plane at the 3-mex location and all planes move bottom except plane at the 3 mex location witch moves top, that kinda confirms that it was formation move and planes tryed to regroup first before moving in the right direction

this is a different issue that usually affects hover units that have their turret stuck to the body of a unit and turret can't rotate. Auroras, zthuees, blazes, shield disruptors, riptides, don't remember anything else. Issue appears when unit is trying to aim at the enemy while player gives commands to move away.
And when that happens hover unit start to make a circle-like move moving forward 1rst and then moving backwards where it is supposed to be moving, and the problem is that each time you give another order they gonna make another circle-like move so when you give orders like once a second they will not move much or even move forward.
https://youtu.be/BQ0PZjM5KNk?t=65 i made this example 10 years ago xD
FAF tryed to solve this problem but i think it just made circles smaller and aurora completes circles faster or something like that.
you can use this circle-wiggle to dodge shots btw, used to be very effective:

Used to be able to dodge even fast shots, even when enemy is close, trade equal mass for mass with t2 sera bots with heavy dodging
But after that there were some more tweaks to make it less effective

On FAF Develop (and after 28th of february: on the release branch) holding CTRL will no longer trigger a formation move. The feature is not used in the average game and usually, just like now, only causes confusion.

You can still make formations by holding the right mouse button.

@jip Can there be an option to completely disable formation move even from long click on mouse?

Yes please i hate formation move, such a bullshit to have all your army go to your base to meet up with one tank

Skill issue

No - as we can't toggle the behavior on / off because it is an assembly patch. If we'd remove it from the mouse action then we'd remove the entire feature from the game.

We choose to remove it from CTRL because that is most often used accidentally.
