Hello! Any new possibilities recently?
-
Just dropping by to say hello, not sure if anyone remembers me. I used to play and do a bit of modding back in the old days of the official forums. Hope everyone is doing well and still enjoying the game

In the years since, I've become a big enthusiast of VR gaming, and recently in that community some near-miraculous things have been happening with all sorts of games being modded into VR, assisted by AI coding models for reverse engineering and such.
eg. Titanfall 2, Max Payne 2, Doom 2016, Gameboy Pokemon, Stardew Valley, etc. There's also a lot of classic console games being decompiled and ported to PC, again with AI assistance.
Putting aside the ethical concerns, there's no question that it's a powerful tool that can enable some things that were previously impractically difficult for home modders.
I was just wondering if this has opened up any new possibilities for some of the things that were previously impossible. Most importantly, recompiling the engine for 64bit. Or altering some of the hard-coded behaviours in the engine.
These days I've been mostly playing Zero-K and BAR, mostly because it feels like there's greater possibility and longevity in a fully open source game. But maybe a decompilation of SupCom could unlock something similar?

Just yesterday there was a post about a whole engine replacement built with rust, have a look around
