Could a 'Direct Strike' Game Mode Work in FAF?

Recently, I stumbled over the game mode 'Direct Strike'² for Warcraft 3, which originated from StarCraft II - And the mode is incredibly addictive.
Would be technically something like that possible for FAF from a mod developer's POV?
Is there even any interest in such a game mode here - what are your thoughts about that?
(²Players strategically choose and deploy units to fight in a tug-of-war style against an opponent's fortress.)

I was told it was broken but there will be a hotfix soon fixing the issue with transports the map has.

I have played around with it. The map itself is incredible. Unfortunately, the overall mechanic is not really my cup of tea, as I am so used to the grid system from WC3, where you just build units, and they go on their happy little adventure automatically.
It boils down to rock, paper, scissors + the heroes, their skills and the item shop; which makes it easier and more fun for me to jump in and play.
The FAF version has its own appeal and surely can be very fun to play, tho.

So an autobattler? It's definitely possible, down to placing units on a grid like they're buildings (we already have that in the form of cheat spawning units).
