Swiss Tournament 4v4
A Swiss tournament is a competition format commonly used in gaming, where participants do not get eliminated after a single loss. Instead, players are paired in each round based on their current scores, so they compete against opponents with similar performance, making it fair and engaging for all skill levels.

Tournament Format:
Double Elimination
This tournament format tends to be used for more casual events as it provides a way to ignore the concerns of seeding that more competent players have by having a "2nd chance" bottom bracket. It takes losing at least 2 series to be knocked out. The format also tends to have an additional match to determine the final winner in the case that the winner of the bottom bracket beats the winner of the top bracket. The existence of this extra game in the case of a loss is the extra security the winner of the top bracket gets for never losing a series.

Rules:

All members of team must arrive at check in time of the tournament. If by chance player is missing for some odd reason, there may be exceptions for substitutes.
Team will have a combined rating of 6700 rating cap.
Must have rating by the day of sign up. No rating manipulation. If suspected will result of disqualification.
All members of a team must have minimum rating of 1100
Looking through feedback, I have decided there will be no personal rating cap. Therefore there will be no exceptions towards the the minimum and combined rating.
Starting on 12 November 2023 players will not hand base over to the highest rated player of the game for the purposes of having a slight eco advantage. Giving units is accepted but not entire bases. This just changes the entire point of adding a rating cap. If suspicion is found of this type of gameplay, team will be disqualified. Exceptions include ACU being killed by enemy, user has a disconnecting issue (user must provide proof)

Greetings!

FAFLive Team Lead here. First and foremost, I want to wish each and every one of you a Happy Holidays.

As the year comes to an end, I wanted to take a moment to share some stats from this past year, along with a few changes coming as we head into the new one.

Before getting into that, I want to clearly address one important point: all FAFLive broadcasts and media outlets are strictly non-biased. We do not promote, endorse, or align with any political affiliation, ideology, or real world political events. Our focus has always been, and will remain, on the game, the competition, and the community.

FAFLive exists to provide fair, neutral coverage and to create a space where players, viewers, and contributors from all backgrounds can enjoy high quality content without outside agendas. That principle will continue to guide how we operate moving forward.

The team has been hard at work behind the scenes producing higher quality content and developing a refreshed look for the stream. We’ve spent a lot of time brainstorming and refining ideas, and we’re getting close to locking in a direction we’re excited about.

Recent tournament coverage and live broadcasts have kept us busy, which is why these changes haven’t rolled out just yet. That momentum is a good problem to have but it does mean some of the visual updates had to stay in development a little longer.

Our goal is to have everything fully in place going into the new year. Along with the updated aesthetics, we’re also exploring the possibility of a team rebrand beyond the FAFLive name so keep an eye out for what’s coming next. That is a little about the upcoming changes, more to come. Cheers to those helping us out with the project.

Format & Limits

Format: Round Robin

Round Robin Format:
In a round robin, every team plays against every other team in the group. No one gets knocked out early, and final standings are based on overall win–loss records. This format is considered one of the fairest because everyone faces the same opponents.

After the round robin ends, the top 2 teams advance to a Grand Final Best-of-3. As a reward for finishing 1st, the top seed starts the final with a 1–0 advantage, meaning they only need one more win to claim the championship, while the 2nd seed must win two straight games.

All placements outside the top two are determined by the final round robin standings.

Captain Pick System: This will be a captain-pick tournament. We will have 6 teams in the upper bracket and a maximum of 6 teams in the lower bracket. Depending on the number of participants, this structure may be adjusted. Captains will be selected, and team drafting will take place one week prior to the tournament. (November 8th, 2025)

Captain picks rules is subject to change

Games will be hosted in a private lobby. TD will give the captains and casters the password for these lobbies once tournament has started.

Max teams: TBD (subject to signups and bracket needs).

Team size: 4 players minimum to start a game. Full teams should be 4–5 (1 substitute allowed on roster).

Check-In, Registration & Substitutes

Check-in opens 1 hour before start and closes 5 minutes before start.
How to check in: Post team name or player names by team captain.
Substitutes: Allowed if registered before the match and announced in chat.. Last-minute emergency subs require TD approval.

The subbed player recieves the rights to ALL prizes if he wins one series (for example one bo3). If he subbed in, but did not win a series, he has no claim to any prizes.

This is only valid if the tourney is held at the officially announced tourney dates. (And NOT if it is moved because of ddos or whatever, in that special case the TD team decides)

Disconnects, Server Issues & Rematches

If a single player disconnects naturally during a game, the team may:
Continue the match if they have ≥ 3 players and accept the result;

If a match is interrupted by server-wide issues (multiple players disconnect or server crash), the match is null and will be replayed.

Reporting Results & Disputes

Result reporting: Winner reports on Setons Clutch discord tournament channel
Disputes: DM the TD immediately with: match ID, time, short description, & evidence (screenshot / VOD). TD decision is final. Appeal window is 30 minutes after TD ruling with new evidence.

• Some of the most important of these rules are:
• Disconnects within 5 minutes may result in a rehost. The Tournament Director has the last say afterwards.
  Players will replay the same map if they draw.
• If the incorrect map is hosted, the correct map will be hosted and the incorrect map will not count towards the score
• Players who do not appear without valid reasoning will be given a warning that may result in being temporarily suspended from tournaments.
• If a player does not show up in Round 1, they may be replaced. For all subsequent rounds, it will be treated as a forfeit and they will be eliminated and not replaced.
• All participants will be allowed a 15-minute wait at the start of a tournament to show up however after this 15 minute wait the Tournament Direct has the right to disqualify you from the tournament. In the case where you will be late but do intend to arrive you need to message the Tournament Director preferably via Discord to inform them you will be late but will show up. When doing this please provide an approximate time delay until you arrive, it will then be the
• Tournament Directors decision whether than delay is too long or acceptable. If your team loses a member, you may find a substitution within the rank requirements.
• The Tournament Director's decision is final.

Conduct & Fair Play

No cheating, smurfing, match-fixing, or rating manipulation. Offenders will be disqualified and may be banned from future events.

Be respectful. Harassment or hate speech = immediate removal and possible ban.

Streamers must follow community rules & add delay to stream to avoid stream sniping. (minimum 90 second delay)

What has been the best feature you've liked so far that FAF has implemented towards the game? What is the least liked feature you like about the game?

@Nuggets Lets go with the facts.

Was the tourney scuffed? Yes.

The connections made this tourney really difficult to manage. When half of the teams are having connection issues, and I'm only referring this to the upper bracket. The lower bracket had little to none issues, which is why they were able to finish 90% that first day.

This brings me to the challonge, I'm not sure what went wrong with the challonge, but wifi's team needed a moment to try to fix connections before starting, in order to help accommodate that, I tried to switch him from starting in the first matches. Retroactively, when you make a change to challonge, its supposed to regenerate with the set paremeters of the seed, not sure why it did not do that.

Teams and substitutes:
Let me put this out as clearly as I can, I as the TD was trying to be reasonable and fair in order to make a great tourney.
Realistically, all the teams that were having connection issues were at a point of disqualification. And if you disagree, that is your opinion, when you drag the game towards another day, that is the effect of being lenient I did not believe that would be fair for the team members still wanting to play.

Lets talk about communication:
I made the discord thread specifically for the team captains on purpose. Referring back to your comment nuggets, the amount of pings that i was receiving was insufferable and caused me to lose track of things, cause there were other players with actual issues. So I relied on the team captains to give me viable information regarding the tourney. Of course this was not happening, another thing to try to fix.

As someone has already addressed, I'm always open to constructive feedback. What I will not listen to, is whining and crying about tournament being unfair. That provides me nothing to look or address in the future. It comes as simple as contacting me and addressing your issues and concerns, and we can look how to implement changes. And if you dislike the way the tourney is ran and you think you could do it better, you are always more than welcome to host it. I am not part of the TD team, but I host these for the sake of the community.

For those that don’t know me, I’m Syndicus (or Syndi), and I’ll be stepping in as the new lead for FAFLive. This is a section of FAF that’s been without leadership for a while, and I’m excited to bring it back to life.

What’s FAFLive?
Think of it as FAF’s production team. We’ll make sure streamers have the support they need, events get hosted and streamed, videos go up on our channels, and visuals like overlays and transitions look sharp. FAFLive is how we project FAF to the wider world—whether that’s Twitch, YouTube, or whatever platform that helps grow our community.

As the recent DDoS attacks have sparked worries about FAF’s future. Rest assured: our development team has been working hard to keep things running smoothly and prevent disruptions.

My goals moving forward:

• Keep what’s already working, tweak what needs improving.

• Make streams more consistent—not just on weekends, but also during the week for those watching from work, on the go, or away from their computers.

• Upload more content so tourneys, events, and highlights are easier to catch after the fact.

The focus is to give more emphasis on what we can do with FAFLive and our Youtube channel.

Right now we are currently looking for Video Editors, a dedicated FAF Casting team, and graphics designers.

But.....wait, wasn't there someone working on this before?

The answer is yes, but as you may know a lot of the project is volunteer based, and in order to reduce the workload on one or more people who have gave countless hours to the project, we are looking for new volunteers to fill in the gaps! The more people we have the less work that needs to be done!

Syndicus -Finally a tournament I can get into! 1300

@chisato As discussed with Farms, it is difficult to find the sweet spot in which both levels of players (Moderate and Pro) are able to play at the competitive level (rating wise). The idea here is to include more than just the pros. As well as to avoid such team, stomping down the others due to a large skill gap (ex: stacked 2K teams), which is why the 6600 is justified. Simply put, the tournament is hosted for a greater amount of players in the FAF community!

@Cortana @FtXCommando @CheeseBerry Thanks for your inputs for the tournament. I think I now have a more general understanding of what is to be adjusted here. I have adjusted the minimum rating to be 1000 rating and have adjusted the ceiling to be 2300 rating. If you have any ideas on or changes for what I adjusted please send me your suggestions.

This comes as a hard decision and ultimately I do understand the concerns of everyone . I was hoping the issues were to be solved before the tournament. Unfortunately there still lies bigger issues with the game in general. I will follow up with the Dev's to see where we are at by the end of the work week and seeing if its plausible to even play it this weekend.

I will still be adjusting teams as we go.

Due to ongoing concerns for the state of the game. I'm going to postpone the tourney till next Saturday. I will include 2 more team entries due to the surplus of player entries. Everyone else will be substitutes in case player misses event hit time. If in the event we don't get the sufficient rated players on the lower end of the rating 1500 or less I will allow 100+- past combined rating.

Alright folks, I'm back and kicking it off with a Setons (mini) mid-year tournament (informal).
Yes, you heard that right!

This isn't your typical tournament with all the fun prizes (though that could change). It’s meant to be casual and showcase the skill gaps that matter when the Setons Yearly Tournament (with big prizes) rolls around.

Think of it like a LoTs qualifier, except it’s not a qualifier... and it’s definitely not LoTs.

With the big tournament just a few months away (November), now’s a perfect time to warm up, have fun, and maybe—just maybe—Gala will FINALLY play.

• This tournament will be Round Robbin, to allow a more interesting tourney.
  A round robin tournament is a competition where each participant plays against every other participant an equal number of times. In a single round robin, each player or team plays every other player or team once. In a double round robin, each participant plays every other participant twice. The winner is typically determined by the best record (most wins)

• We will be doing captain pick
  Some more brainstorming, if we get enough teams, we can extend this to Sunday, so long as members are able to participate. But there will be one winning team daily. The max teams we will do in one day is 10 otherwise if we don't get enough we will do 8 or 6 because I like even numbers.

• Captains will be based off rating, so we don't get the whole 2K stackup, then there'd be no fun in that.
  With enough players we could get more games the second day, if it is favorable for everyone.

A Thought

If in the case we do get a second day to play with more players, and those players are lower rated, perhaps in some case we could have a 2K coach that team in an attempt to win. Again just a thought, as this tournament serves as a way to get better at setons. More discussion to follow on that!

Hello, there is a "Tester" role in the discord currently, but not sure how it's being used. I would say, balance changes could be released towards the FAFDEV Game mode for a few weeks to gain feedback before they are actually pushed to the regular game.

Something to be said about this, and all moderation actions/rules, which I know may not be part of this discussion at hand but, can we please stop with manipulating the ban hammer for everything. Sure, some players will act out at times, sure things happen (ill admit ive acted out at times), but what I've been seeing more and more lately, is players being banned instantly. We've shied away from the idea of warning players, for their actions. Maybe ask, how is their track record from the offense they had before, and from now with the new offense they gained. Was the player warned about their actions, and how recent was it? Sometimes all it takes is a pat on the back, and a brief reminder , to say "Hey, if you keep doing this, you will be banned," according to whichever FAF regulation. That's what some games do, depending on the violation. And that is also how player base population is retained. And I know someone might argue, "Well this person so and so has been a bad player before so they deserve nothing but a ban," again, I think just because they've had offenses in the past, doesn't make it that they are immune to receiving warnings and of course this also depends on the violation. We are a small community as is, let us, as the player base, moderate it as well, with the foe feature. If we don't want to play with someone, let us handle it. Sometimes we find ourselves waiting in a lobby for hours because certain players are banned, which in turn ruins our gaming experience because we are stuck waiting for a player that will give us a quality game.
