@CaptainKlutz Hi, please make a version of the Dual Gap map. Why another DualGap? Newbies < 1000 can't play anything else and therefore don't go to unfamiliar ones. (Astrocrater, this is not a map XD) I wish there was a map similar to DualGap but with some new ideas...

@jip said in DualGap Adaptive needs to be given to the FAF community!:
I have no interest in further developing a specific map. If the author wants to allow the community to make derivations he/she can simply give it a Creative Commons license that allows that.
The map developer has disappeared.
Ok, I think there are still developers in FAF who are ready to take on the support of the map on which 80% of the games in FAF are played.

DualGap Adaptive needs to be given to the FAF community!
It's no secret that Dual Gap Adaptive v14 is one of the most popular maps, and maybe the most popular. I think we need to fork the Dual Gap Adaptive v14 map and hand over the development of this map to the FAF community. At the moment, the author of the map has disappeared and is not in contact. And as the author of the map himself admitted, he lost interest in the project.
I am not suggesting that the map be taken away from the author. I propose to make a new development branch of Dual Gap Adoptive FAF edition based on Dual Gap Adaptive v14. The map author will still be able to make new versions of his map.
But we will have an alternative way of developing this map, which will be developed by talented developers such as @Jip , who will make the map even better!
Put + if you support this proposal, or - if you are against it.

ICE Adapter load my CPU on 100%
This usually happens when someone has problems with the network.
The impression is that somewhere in the code an endless loop starts when there is no connection with someone. -

Maybe I am not fully aware of the economic forces behind this franchise, but I cannot imagine there being enough of a market to justify remastering this game.
In some ways you are right, the game is really dead and no one plays it. If you look at the graphs, online SC:FA is equal to online SopCom 2. So why will the publisher remaster SC1 or SC:FA? Why doesn't the publisher make a remaster of SupCom 2? The publisher doesnât care what you personally like, he needs financial indicators.
Why do you need to make a remaster or sequel for SC1:FA? Why not SC2? Maybe more people are playing SC:FA? No, no more, according to Steam charts: https://steamcharts.com/cmp/9420,40100#All -

Interesting fact, a lot of people talked about how terrible Supremme Commander 2 turned out, but if you look at the graphs, the popularity of SC:FA was not much more than SC2. If you look at the graph, this was the case until approximately June 2022. I'm wondering what's causing this online growth in SC:FA in 2022?

RE: Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?
@deribus thanks for the info
here it is stated that CRYSTAL DYNAMICS does not own IP SupCom. But this does not exclude the possibility that the rights were acquired. From the official Embracer website:
"Embracer Group AB (âEmbracerâ) has entered into an agreement to acquire the development studios Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-MontrĂ©al, Square Enix MontrĂ©al, and a catalogue of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more than 50 back-catalogue games from SQUARE ENIX HOLDINGS CO., LTD."
A maximum of 10 franchises have been confirmed, but the official website claims another 50 games from the Square Enix catalog.
In this Reddit thread, in one of the comments, the user refers to an insider from Square Enix.

What game are you working on
Secret information ). (our team was a contractor for manual testing of one of the wargaming games. I was an project manager on the project.)
@nine2 said in Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?:
We could try and go to them and just ask nicely, saying it would be good publicity and citing examples of other publishers giving up the code and how good that turned out.
I'm not interested in the source code. It would be better if they make a remaster that fixes the main problems.
There is a chance that everything is now in the hands of Embracer
@nine2 said in Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?:
I know people have sent emails in the past but you could do it a bit nicer with fancy slides and charts etc. A nice business pitch.
Great idea. Don't want to do this? Itâs better to ask for a remaster and indicate in the presentation how they will return all the money invested). This is a more realistic option.
@redx said in Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?:
Guys... It's not gonna happen.
Are you talking about transferring the source code? Yes, I completely agree with you. This will never happen.
But I think the chances of a remaster being released are much higher)
If the source code and IP are now the property of Embracer, this simplifies the process. -

@nine2 said in Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?:
Someone once told me where the code is, but we need permission first. I don't think it's lost
I happened to work on a game project (a mobile game with a small budget) and from my experience interacting with the publisher, I concluded that they would not do anything for free:
Of course, if you find someone who is willing to spend ~$2M (Christ Taylor said in an interview that it would most likely cost several million.) to resolve all copyright issues. This might work
@nine2 Do you think there is another way? -
RE: Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?
@brutus5000 So what did Taylor say? Were you in that forum thread and saw what he wrote?

@captainklutz said in Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?:
Square Enix owns the publishing rights.
I read that Nordic Games have the rights to publish SC1 and SC:FA
But as far as I know, publication rights do not mean rights to the source code (By source code I mean: source code, models, animations, soundtracks, etc.)

Who owns the rights to the SC:FA source code?
It is very interesting to me
There is a thread on an old forum about this:

So what was the answer?UPDATE:

@nflanders I like how you just ignore when I say we've already tried this. We've already had a very well off person who had connections that tried this. It didn't work.
I read about this on an old forum. All I could find out was that ZePilot asked to release the source code into the public domain or give it to FAF for FREE. I'm right?
Is there something I don't know about?

RE: Why would you have left FAF?
@ZLO @Blodir @Nex @BlackYps We're completely lost in our dreams XD. We have not yet found a HERO who will negotiate on behalf of FAF. Legal and diplomatic challenges seem more difficult.
We need a hero)
But there's no harm in dreaming, so let's continue)
@zlo said in Why would you have left FAF?:
yes it does mean that you can fall behind by any number of seconds or minutes
but it does sound fine to me for casual games
in comparison for game being unplayableI note that it is assumed that all players will play through the coturn server and there will be no peer-to-peer connection. Therefore, at the stage of connecting to FAF, we can detect the loss of packets when connecting to the coturn server. I think this solution will already weed out 90% of lagers whose pockets are lost. And the SpringRTS network system that we are discussing will eliminate micro-lags.
As I understand it, if you experience a lag, this does not mean that you will lag behind the entire game; if you have new hardware, for example i3-12100 (good single-threaded performance), then in theory you will catch up with the rest very quickly.

@redx said in [Why would you have left FAF?]
I'm so confused. What problem are you trying to solve here? You keep making suggestions that seem aimed at bringing in money, but to what end?
Can I solve the problem? Of course not. If there was a person who would try to negotiate cooperation with Nordic Games.
Success largely depends on the character of the negotiator.
This can help solve a very wide range of problems. Here is the maximum program:
-
Completely solve the problem of lags and disconnections during the game. Ideally, a system like in Beyond All Reason RTS, where only those with a poor connection to the server lag, everyone else enjoys the game. (more details: https://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=37637)
-
The game can become free on Steam. Will solve the problem with "funnel".
@ftxcommando said in Why would you have left FAF?:
the problems FAF has always had with regards for players isn't retention related, it's funnel related.
Does the negotiator achieve success or not, if someone wants to try why not? The main thing is that the person is competent.

@brutus5000 said in [Why would you have left FAF?]
Sucks, but what is the alternative?
What if we start negotiations with Nordic Games?
But who will negotiate? Is there an excellent diplomat in the FAF structure who is capable of such a task? For example, you can offer joint development of a battle pass. In-game cosmetics for ACU. In exchange, they will make SC:FA free.
If you donât know where to start, you can consult Chris Taylor. He has extensive experience interacting with publishers. I think he will not refuse help and will tell you how best to negotiate.

@brutus5000 said in [Why would you have left FAF?]
it can be free forever
If everything is free, how can my friend and I try your project for free? A friend has seen enough of Yuriâs video and wants to try playing FAF, but to do this he needs to pay 5 times more than the game costs to an intermediary who will buy him this game since it is not sold in Russia. And spend a lot of time searching for an intermediary and corresponding with him (I bought the game 15 years ago and played on GPGnet)
We play, but only inGAF, there is no other option. For us ordinary players, it doesnât matter whether you are a commercial or non-profit organization, we still have to pay and it doesnât matter to whom, the fact is that access to the FAF project is paid.
If I have to make a choice, I would rather FAF become a commercial organization and SC:FA become completely free on Steam.
