Due to chat bugs and network issues, all official communication on the days of the tournament will be via discord in the appropriate text channel in the #tournaments section. If you cannot communicate through discord then the FAF Client will be used as next best option.

      Invites

The invites will be based on the players with the highest amount of LotS points. If a player declines, an invite will be sent to a player next in line. There are 12 total invites. To find out how the LotS points work, you can find the information here: https://forum.faforever.com/topic/9339/lots-points-2025-onwards

      Format

      Open Qualifier

The open qualifier will be a double elimination bracket. The upper bracket will be BO3. However, depending on the amount of signups, the number of BO1s vs BO3s in the upper bracket may be adjusted to ensure a timely tournament. The losers bracket will be BO1.
The seeding will be based on your ladder rating. So for example, the highest rated player will play the lowest rated player in the first round.

Once the top 4 is decided in the bracket, the qualifier tournament will not continue. The top 4 will qualify to the Swiss Stage of the Spring Invitational.

The players that are closest to qualifying (5th+) will be substitutes for the Spring Invitational Swiss Stage.

You can find the forum post here: https://forum.faforever.com/topic/9940/2026-spring-invitational-open-qualifier-1v1

      Swiss Stage

      • The Swiss stage will have 16 players.
      • Players that reach 3 wins advance to Finals.
      • Players that reach 3 losses are eliminated.
      • All matches are BO1 in this stage
      • Rematches are not permitted
      • Players will be matched with equal score opponents.
      • 2-1 will face 1-2 in the final matches.

The swiss bracket will be viewable on the spreadsheet. We will also add a score tally this time to make it easier to understand.

      Finals

The finals stage will be a classic single elimination bracket with all matches being BO5 apart from the Grand Finals which will be BO7.

      Mappool

Will be on the google spreadsheet.

      Veto System

Will be on the google spreadsheet.

      Rules

The official FAF Tournament Rules apply.
Some of the most important of these rules are:

      1. Disconnects within 5 minutes may result in a rehost. The Tournament Director has the last say afterwards.
      2. Players will replay the same map if they draw.
      3. If the incorrect map is hosted, the correct map will be hosted and the incorrect map will not count towards the score
      4. Players who do not appear without valid reasoning will be given a warning that may result in being temporarily suspended from tournaments.
      5. If a player does not show up in Round 1, they may be replaced. For all subsequent rounds, it will be treated as a forfeit and they will be eliminated and not replaced.
      6. All participants will be allowed a 15-minute wait at the start of a tournament to show up however after this 15 minute wait the Tournament Director has the right to disqualify you from the tournament. In the case where you will be late but do intend to arrive you need to message the Tournament Director preferably via Discord to inform them you will be late but will show up. When doing this please provide an approximate time delay until you arrive, it will then be the Tournament Directors decision whether than delay is too long or acceptable.
      7. The Tournament Director's decision is final.
You can read the rest here: https://forum.faforever.com/assets/uploads/files/1685891393985-official-faf-tournament-rules.pdf
      8. Please make sure all lobbies are passworded and inform your opponents the password and casters if applicable.

      2025 Spring Invitational

After a long wait, the time has finally come! The 2025 Spring Invitational is here.
Obviously there’s going to be some changes, but we will prepare you for that.

      General Information

      Qualifier - 24th of May 13 UTC
Group Stage - 31st of May 13 UTC
      Final Stage - TBD

      Live coverage: https://www.twitch.tv/faflive

      Tournament Organiser: hybrid
      Tournament Directors: Rhaelya, SainseRow, Styrdxr

      Spring Invites

Since the old LOTS Points system has been discontinued, we have decided that we are going to invite the top 4 players of LOTS 2024 and the top 2 players from the ongoing 15th season of the 1v1 league (you can view the leaderboard in the client). The placement will be taken on May the 19th, 12 UTC. This is so you have time to try and reach those top spots.
In case the top ladder players are already invited because of their placement in LOTS, the next player on the leaderboard will be given the invite.

      Reworking of the Points System

We will be introducing a new points system for LOTS and its qualifiers, which will be revealed later. This means that your result in the Spring Invitational will impact whether or not you may be invited to the Summer Invitational and LOTS itself.

      Open Qualifier (Double Elimination)

All the details will be in its own forum post which you can find here: https://forum.faforever.com/topic/9092/2025-spring-invitational-open-qualifier

      Challonge: https://challonge.com/2025sioq
      Chat: #springOQ

      Group Stage (Round Robin)

There will be 2 groups consisting of 6 players, each made up of 3 players from the open qualifier and 3 invited players. The groups will be seeded based on placement in the open qualifier and number of the invitation (see invite section further down). Every player will play five BO1’s. The top 4 players of each group will qualify, meaning that bottom 2 will be eliminated. In case of a tie we will be using the head to head score to determine placement.

      Challonge: https://challonge.com/4vckcfra
      Chat: #springGS

      Final Stage (Single Elimination)

This will be a simple single elimination bracket, with the seeding being determined by the group stages. The quarter finals and semifinals will be BO3. The finals will be BO5 alongside the 3rd place decider match.

      Challonge: https://challonge.com/4vckcfra

    • FAF Tournament Team Update 2025

Hey everyone, as you might have noticed there's been some recent changes to the Tournament Team, which includes Tournament Directors, Senior TD's and the Team Lead. This post is here to give everyone an idea what's been going on behind the scenes.

As you may know, NOC stepped down from the Team Lead role after the LOTS 2024 tournament and I was elected as the new Team Lead. I'll take this chance to introduce myself to those that don’t know me; I started playing FAF when I was 11 after seeing some Gyle casts. Very quickly into my FAF experience, I started participating in tournaments and joined the GB clan in 2014 where I made a lot of my early FAF memories. As the years went by, I saw myself joining plenty of tournaments, albeit not with a lot of success. Regardless, I very much enjoyed participating in the competitive circuit. As time went on, I improved quite a bit and even ended up competing in some of the bigger tournaments with players I never imagined I could compete with. At some point, I joined the tournament team, hosting various blitz tournaments, including my favourite kind: 2v2s! After a few years of inactivity I came back and re-joined the team near the end of 2024.

The first thing I did as lead was to go on a recruiting spree. I looked for people that I knew had the best intentions and wanted FAF to thrive. Those people are: Nuggets, Strydxr, Vindex, Sainse and Paradox_Of_War - what about other people on the team?. All of them had various different experiences with FAF, which I firmly believe are important for the community. Recently I announced my senior TD’s - Rhaelya and Strydxr, who also happen to be Team Leads on their own (Balance and Trainer).

We've had multiple very productive team meetings, with the goal of improving tournaments and the competitive circuit that, we feel, were not up to par in recent times.

      In our first meeting, we definitely had a lot to discuss. The topics covered were;

      • The reviewing of the current ruleset
      • Outlining the budget for the year
      • Tournament ban and warning system
      • Re-organising the forum
      • Reflection on tournaments so far
      • Substitute prize rights
      • Planned tournaments for the year

      After a long-winded meeting, we discussed the path going forward, and so the second meeting looked like;

      • Discussing transparency of the team
      • Avatars and custom avatars
      • Collaboration with the other teams
      • What makes a tournament a FAF official tournament
      • A mid-year LOTS equivalent importance 2v2 tournament (Potentially a trophy included)
      • 1v1 circuit and Invitationals
      • Other future tournament plans
      • The creation of tournament guides
      • Standardising and rewriting important tournament forum information

For the past 3 months the Tournament Team had been working hard to give back to the community that we love. We have made a lot of progress and hope to continue to do so in the future.

Before I became Team Lead, I had always dreamt of hosting a prominent annual tournament in FAF. I’m pleased to inform you all that there will be a big 2v2 tournament coming at the end of May and start of June. I’m planning on having a large prize pool and even including some sort of physical trophy. Hope to see you all there!

    • Challengers Cup (4v4)(u6000)

Greetings everyone! This is going to be a new tournament aimed at the mid range of players as there hasn't been much at all in recent times. As someone who has continued to play FAF because of tournaments, I thought it would be a fun and enticing idea to make this tournament. My fondest early memories of playing FAF were playing mid-rank tournaments where you find that itch for being in intense competitive games.

This will be a 4v4 tournament with the aim of increasing the competitiveness in the mid-rank range. If this tournament goes well it may become a regular tournament throughout the year, with potential cash prizes being included.

      Map pool

For this tournament, we will be collaborating with the Matchmaker Team. They will be making for pool for us alongside making it the 4v4 matchmaking pool for the month of July. This means the map pool will be released on the 1st of July.

      6. All participants will be allowed a 15-minute wait at the start of a tournament to show up however after this 15 minute wait the Tournament Direct has the right to disqualify you from the tournament. In the case where you will be late but do intend to arrive you need to message the Tournament Director preferably via Discord to inform them you will be late but will show up. When doing this please provide an approximate time delay until you arrive, it will then be the Tournament Directors decision whether than delay is too long or acceptable. If your team loses a member, you may find a substitution within the rank requirements.
      7. The Tournament Director's decision is final.

    • Rule Changes, Prize Eligibility, Forfeiting and Substitutions

Hello everyone, I have an important announcement to make on behalf of the Tournament Team as its lead. I hope you can take time to read this, and engage in civil discussions if you have anything to add or comment on.

As some might be aware, there were issues regarding interpretation and implementation of rules in the last three tournaments: Challenger's Cup, LotS Qualifier and King of Setons 2025. To ensure competitive integrity, clarity and satisfaction of all parties involved, the Tournament Team will be implementing a couple of changes/clarifications to the immediate ruleset. Know that we plan to refactor and rework the rules at large - to make them super easy to understand and follow them, as well as incentivize healthy behaviour in and around the time of tournament events. This is a larger project which is already underway, but it will take quite some time to complete - in order to ensure we lay good foundations for the foreseeable future. I look forward to us publishing those, but for now, let us return to the immediate topic.

The following changes will apply to any and all tournaments sponsored/funded by FAF.

      Qualifiers and forfeiting

Some tournaments act as qualifying stages for other, larger tournaments, or have a qualifying stage as part of the tournament stage itself. This is often implemented such that reaching a Top X position, e.g. Top 4, qualifies a participant for the next stage/tournament. This was the case with the group stage in Challenger's Cup and theLotS Qualifier. The point of these qualifying tournaments was to both create extra engagement for the community, as well as give new people a chance to join the tournament stage. However, a problematic trend formed where participants, who weren't interested in the qualifying tournament itself, only aimed to reach the "Top X" position, and didn't care about the rest of the event.

Participants like these proceeded to forfeit the remaining games once they got qualified - with their goal already reached. As much as these forfeitures were allowed, they created a very frustrating scenario for the organizers, and a disappointing environment for other tournament participants and community members, who looked forward to the matches. This was especially bad since the matches that got forfeited were, by definition, in the final stages of the tournament - when one might expect the most exciting, high level matches. We don't think this kind of behaviour is very conducive to keeping the competitive spirit in FAF going strong, so we are adding the following rule:

      • Any participant that voluntarily forfeits a match at any stage of the tournament will be considered withdrawn from the tournament. This means they immediately relinquishes all rights to prizes, titles, rankings or qualifications they were eligible to receive. This includes: qualification for higher-tier tournaments/stages, monetary prizes, avatar awards, and any other.

As for the particular cases listed, as much as we dislike doing any kind of rule enforcement retroactively, we do believe this is a severe enough situation where some action is required. While we won't be applying the rule in its entirety - since we do believe that wouldn't be fair either - we decided that all participants who broke the rule in this year's LotS Qualifier will not be receiving their 2nd and 3rd placement avatar rewards, the Faction Face/Logo avatars.

We are aware this is a band-aid - we would really like to introduce a rule or a solution that pivots on incentivizing competitive behaviour, rather than punishing unwanted one. However, this would require a substantial set of changes (which, as already mentioned, we are working towards), and just isn't feasible as a single update.

      Substitutions and prize eligibility

The recent King of Setons 2025 tournament had an issue that we'd evaluate as "lacking competitive integrity", at the least. Without needing to go into details on what exactly happened, to ensure it does not repeat, we will be implementing and enforcing the following rules regarding substitutions, as well as prize eligibility for substitutes:

      • A "substitute" is a person who replaces a member of a team participating in a team tournament. The substitute may only replace a single person, and the replaced member is considered withdrawn from the tournament.
      • A person may only participate as a substitute in case they were/are not already an active participant of the tournament - either organizer, participating player, a substitute, or a replaced player.
      • The replaced player, relinquishes any and all prize eligibility to the substitute but only once the substitute has won at least 1 series.

      Format

The open qualifier will be a double elimination bracket. The upper bracket will be BO3. However, depending on the amount of signups, the number of BO1s vs BO3s in the upper bracket may be adjusted to ensure a timely tournament. The losers bracket will be BO1.
The seeding will be based on your ladder rating. So for example, the highest rated player will play the lowest rated player in the first round.

Once the top 4 is decided in the bracket, the tournament will not continue. Top 4 will qualify to the Swiss Stage of the Spring Invitational.

The players that are closest to qualifying (5th+) will be substitutes for the Spring Invitational Swiss Stage.

      Spring Invitational Group Stage

Congratulations on qualifying or being invited to the preliminary stage of the Spring Invitational. So far has been exciting! This will be the beginning of the official 2025 Spring Invitational.

      Format

There will be 2 groups consisting of 6 players, each made up of 3 players from the open qualifier and 3 invited players. The groups will be seeded based on placement in the open qualifier and number of the invitation. Every player will play five BO3’s. The top 4 players of each group will qualify, meaning that bottom 2 will be eliminated. In case of a tie we will be using the Median-Buchholz system to determine placement.

      Veto

There will be a pool of 11 maps. The maps will be selected using a pick and ban(veto) system. Each player will have 4 bans and 1 map pick, with the final map being decided by being the last map left. The lower seed will begin by banning 2 maps, followed by the higher seed banning 2 more maps. The lower seed will then pick first and the higher seed will pick second. After the map picks, to finish off the veto, it will be alternating bans, beginning with the lower seed until 1 map is left.

The veto will look like this:
      b6745cf5-eefd-45e5-bdb5-21a8efcfbb0c-image.png

ALL players must report their veto’s to the Tournament Director. You must not start the game until you have confirmation from the Tournament Director that the veto is valid.

      Invites

The invites will be based on the players with the highest amount of LOTS points. For this tournament I will invite the top ten players with those points. If a player declines, an invite will be sent to a player next in line.
Once again we will also invite the top 2 players from the ongoing 16th season of the 1v1 league (you can view the leaderboard in the client). The placement will be taken on August the 4th, 12 UTC. This is so you have time to try and reach those top spots.
In case the top ladder players are already invited because of placement in the LOTS Points system, the next player on the leaderboard will be given the invite.

      Finals Stage

The Finals Stage will be a simple single elimination stage with all matches being Bo3's, aside from the grand finals which will be a Bo5. There will be a 3rd place decider match.
