FAF Tournament Team Update 2025
Hey everyone, as you might have noticed there's been some recent changes to the Tournament Team, which includes Tournament Directors, Senior TD's and the Team Lead. This post is here to give everyone an idea what's been going on behind the scenes.
As you may know, NOC stepped down from the Team Lead role after the LOTS 2024 tournament and I was elected as the new Team Lead. I'll take this chance to introduce myself to those that don’t know me; I started playing FAF when I was 11 after seeing some Gyle casts. Very quickly into my FAF experience, I started participating in tournaments and joined the GB clan in 2014 where I made a lot of my early FAF memories. As the years went by, I saw myself joining plenty of tournaments, albeit not with a lot of success. Regardless, I very much enjoyed participating in the competitive circuit. As time went on, I improved quite a bit and even ended up competing in some of the bigger tournaments with players I never imagined I could compete with. At some point, I joined the tournament team, hosting various blitz tournaments, including my favourite kind: 2v2s! After a few years of inactivity I came back and re-joined the team near the end of 2024.
The first thing I did as lead was to go on a recruiting spree. I looked for people that I knew had the best intentions and wanted FAF to thrive. Those people are: Nuggets, Strydxr, Vindex, Sainse and Paradox_Of_War - what about other people on the team?. All of them had various different experiences with FAF, which I firmly believe are important for the community. Recently I announced my senior TD’s - Rhaelya and Strydxr, who also happen to be Team Leads on their own (Balance and Trainer).
We've had multiple very productive team meetings, with the goal of improving tournaments and the competitive circuit that, we feel, were not up to par in recent times.
In our first meeting, we definitely had a lot to discuss. The topics covered were;
- The reviewing of the current ruleset
- Outlining the budget for the year
- Tournament ban and warning system
- Re-organising the forum
- Reflection on tournaments so far
- Substitute prize rights
- Planned tournaments for the year
After a long-winded meeting, we discussed the path going forward, and so the second meeting looked like;
- Discussing transparency of the team
- Avatars and custom avatars
- Collaboration with the other teams
- What makes a tournament a FAF official tournament
- A mid-year LOTS equivalent importance 2v2 tournament (Potentially a trophy included)
- 1v1 circuit and Invitationals
- Other future tournament plans
- The creation of tournament guides
- Standardising and rewriting important tournament forum information
For the past 3 months the Tournament Team had been working hard to give back to the community that we love. We have made a lot of progress and hope to continue to do so in the future.
Before I became Team Lead, I had always dreamt of hosting a prominent annual tournament in FAF. I’m pleased to inform you all that there will be a big 2v2 tournament coming at the end of May and start of June. I’m planning on having a large prize pool and even including some sort of physical trophy. Hope to see you all there!

RE: Why does everything suck so much right now?
@jip i get it with the harsh comments part, the communication and getting more points across in a nicer way could be a lot better. but do you not think that sometimes the reaction is genuinely warranted with the way that some mods and contributors respond with. communication goes 2 ways and neither side does it anywhere near perfect. however i just think its unfair to slate that "small vocal group of players" as if they do nothing for the community especially when in fact they do quite a lot for the community. we all want the best for the game.
in addition to a lot of the changes, imo and i think quite a few others from that "small group of vocal players" might agree is that i think one of the biggest problems is that players should be but aren't getting rewarded as much for making better plays whether thats micro or macro. rts's aren't supposed to be easy all the time. I get it that you want to make it more accessible for newer and lesser skilled players, and it make sense but the direction of the game in my eyes feels like we're seeing less reward for being a better player and i dont think thats how rts's should be balanced and in our case, it shouldnt be the way to solve a lot of the problems. however i do like the idea of meta shifts in terms of game balancing as it adds to the game and keeps it fresh. but changing entire mechanics of the game (area reclaim) isnt exactly what id call a great change either, for the reasoning being of what i said before.
