The AI developement teams are working very hard to polish their AI before the tournament.

Here is how the Maps for the Finals will be chosen:
I wanted a surprise map for finals game 1,
and
I didn't want to make the HUGE decision for the last 2 maps that will decide the whole Tournament.
So, I want to leave that to the Players.

This is the idea that I have come up with that should be fair to both teams.

Finals
Match 22 > Game 1
Finals - Game 1 Map - Will be a surprise,
released "Shortly" before launch.
Training and Preparation got you here,
Playing by intuition will win this one!

Match 22 > Games 2 & 3
Games 2 and 3 maps will be chosen by the Captains as follows:
Each Captain will send list of 8 map numbers, from the map pool to veto.
The remaining maps will be vetoed 1 at a time until 3 maps are left,
and then high seed Captain will pick "Odds or Evens"
The winner of the "Odds or Evens" roll, will then choose the map
to play for Game 2.
Odds or Evens will be decided on Aeolus by using the command - !roll -.
If a game 3 is needed, the other Captain,
will choose one of the remaining 2 maps to play.
(the 3rd remaining map will be used if a Tie Break is needed.)

The AI development teams are working very hard to fine tune their AI's
before the Tournament.

With all the exposure this Tournament is going to receive,
and how well their AI performs, is a point of pride for them,
and they are getting a LOT of feedback Everyday on their AI.

I would Not even be surprised if there was an update or two released mid week
between day 1 and day 2 or the tournament,
as the AI teams are going to receive a treasure trove of info/feedback from Day 1.

It only takes a few seconds to search the Mod Vaults and update each AI.
So...
Make sure that all players check on the Day Of Each Tourny for updates.

I'd also like to give a BIG Thanks to the players for participating in this unique Tournament,
as this will be very good for the FAF community -
as there is a pretty large sub group of players who play mostly solo AI games,
and this Tourny is motivating the AI teams to providing the best,
and smartest AI they can possibly create.

Other Tourny news:
All maps are now released (21 maps)
and have been tested once for bugs and fairness.
To be extra sure that all the AI works well and expands symmetrically and fairly,
I will be replaying all the maps once again with the new AI updates to
make sure there are no balance issues that have changed.

Post Script: To the following message,
which brings up some valid points.
Most of the updates have been to stability, replay issues,
and some improvement to simspeed (lessening waypoints, and #'s of permissions)
to lessen any effects on game speed.

We've been preparing this weekend for the tourney, and we might not have a chance to prepare again together during the week cause not everybody is available on week days.

We planned our strategies based on how the IA responds right now, so if you change the way the IA is playing this week, all our work will be useless, and we might have no time to test again how the IA is working.

It's like changing rules : if you say two days before the tourney that it's not full share anymore, it will be very annoying.

Not that my team and I are tryharding for the victory, but I think it's a general good habit when organizing a tourney to have at least 1-2 weeks without any update to the game before the tourney 😉

@cocAurico As someone who has an active AI on vault, I can assure you that the updates are not going to be noticed. Updates this late in the game are not for the implementation of some game winning/full proof strategy, they are fixing small bugs, etc. The bugs dont crop up from the moment the game starts, they might only crop up in a certain situation, when a certain platoon or threat warning is triggered. You wouldn't want, as an example, the AI near your opponent having a major bug issue and imploding, and the one near you ready to kick ass. It goes without saying that you would want that AI fixed. As for the preparing part against the AI. They are adaptive, and when you add another human team in there, or even alter the races, their gameplay can change. So what you feel and see now might not be what you feel and see when the tournament starts, not because of an update, but because the AI is allocating its resources to fight a constantly changing threat. And since you cannot predict/know how the other human team is going to react, you will not be able to naildown/recreate the AI style. I think you should trust, that whatever updates happen, it is for the benefit of all involved.

There are multiple players who have asked to be put on the standby list since the draft period ended.
So, I am reopening the tournament to new players who would like a "chance" to play.
Players who wish to play will be put on a "Restricted" Standby list
and have an opportunity to play.
The way the Standby list and the Restricted Standby list will work, is as follows:

ANY player on the pre draft - Standby list can fill in for anyone no matter the rating differential.
A player on the 'restricted' standby list can Only fill in for a player with a higher rating.

ie: A 1640 rated player drops out and needs replacement -
the team captain can choose an 1800 player from the stanby list or

**The reason I opened the registration again is because the standby pool is not very strong,
and if a team looses a player, it is not very fair to that team.
(And for the viewers who are eager to watch the most competitive matches they can)
The players who are already on the standby list have already been passed over in draft
and all 12 captains have had a chance to pick them once,
so rating does not matter as far as replacing someone who was already picked before them.
but... New player who register now,
have Not had chance to be picked so can Not replace someone with a lower rating.
There is 'minimal' chance to abuse this system,
as someone would have to of known and planned ahead of time to "make a swap" .
I expect all to abide by the good faith of our FAF community, and not abuse this opportunity.
But if someone forgets to set alarm clock, or has an emergency,
I would like for the remaining team players to have a deeper player pool to choose from.

Only one team had problem getting mods to work,
And there were a couple of no shows,
but we were able to make up some competitive teams from the standby pool.

The winners bracket is good till next Saturday.

Teams in the losers bracket should try to play Up To Losers Round 2 in the bracket during the week.
Teams 2 and 5 need to play, with the winner to play team 8.
Teams 7 and 12 need to play, with the winner to play team 9.

Motion to rename the tourney to rAInbow Cup

Attention: >> Players from Teams 2, 5, 7, and 12.
These teams either left early or had no shows on Day 1 of the the Tournament,
and were moved into Matches 10 and 11 of the tournament brackets.

These teams will be given till end of tommorow Feb 2 (2400 UTC) to
"arrange a time and day"
to complete the Losers Round 1, BEFORE Tourny Day 2.
They must arrange a mutually agreeable time with the teams in the bracket above them.
And have a TD standby to monitor the games.

Some teams had the Captain no show and some Captains had their draft picks no show,
these teams or Captains may form new teams from the standby list or consolidate teams among themselves.
(substitute ratings limitation/rules apply) must not create a higher Rated team than before.

If teams are not heard back from by tommorrow's deadline...
Teams 8 and 9 will move up to Round 2.

If teams are Not reformed the Draft pick players (due to No fault of their own)
will be placed back into the standby pool,
and can sub on finals day, if neccessary.

Attention RCIII players.. New Finals Date TBD.
The 3rd place team will receive their victory prize at the end of Saturday.

One Best Of Three Match still remains (Match #13), and then
The Tournament Brackets will be caught up to Saturday Feb 6.
There will then be 6 teams left, but unfortunately,
There are too many brackets left (3-5 depending on present bracket position) to finish the Tourny on Same day.

Teams who win the winners bracket will only have to play 2 matches to reach the Finals,
But a team who loses the first match of Winners round 2, will have to play 5 matches.
This would put the Finals start time in Msk at midnight.
The above mentioned team would have to play 4 straight matches then face the well rested winner of the top bracket.

The 2 Teams in the Finals Will agree to play the Finals match on either:
the following day Sunday Feb 7 at 1700 UTC, or
the following Saturday Feb 13th at 1700 UTC.
If Capt's Can Not agree to play the following day, then the date will be set for Feb 13th, at 1700 UTC.

(1700 UTC/Europe = Noon EST/US and 8 pm in Msk)
1700 UTC is peak hour for viewership and good for the streamers and viewers.
And will give time for the Players to be at their Most rested on both teams.

Most maps AIx multipliers were nerfed some.
The goal of map AI is to put slight to heavy pressure on players but not to win.

Map #14 (below) for instance has 2 game specific options
