Well, that is quite a very complex topic. However, I will list some starting points in case someone wants to spend effort/time into it, also AI will be great tool to get explanations about what I am talk here:
Indicators/Options:
- DDoS: sudden, unusual lag or disconnections that affect your entire internet connection, not just the game. But it also could be non-DDoS-related issue by just having a bad network on your end, or/and somewhere between you and the server, or/and the server.
You could use WinMTR to monitor it - it will not flash "DDoS Attack", but it will indicate something may not right with the network when it happens for further investigation.
-
Some routers have a fancy interface that have graphs & stats about
- Excessive incoming or outgoing traffic.
- Many connections from the same or similar IP ranges.
- Bandwidth graphs
-
Good firewalls can also be used as traffic monitoring tools, allowing you to monitor real-time network traffic. I am unable to suggest specific ones, but if you ask AI for free ones, it usually comes up with good suggestions to try out.
If you suspect that you are under attack:
-
Reboot your router to obtain a new IP address (unless you have a static one, then u have to contact your provider, if u explain the situation, they can usually look further into it).
-
To be on the safe side, when u were attacked: before logging into FAF, get a new IP, use a VPN and make sure it is stable. Play through that VPN, so if someone tries to attack, they will target the VPN provider instead. The provider will have the tools to filter it out effectively.
-
Look into (software) firewalls, the windows default is not ideal for advanced network monitoring or DDoS-related diagnostics.
Also, @Sturmgewehr has made very recently a topic related to this, perhaps worth checking out:

chat gpt gave me this powerscript:
i think its working ... but then i have to admit that i dont get ddosed. my speedcheck is good. so again... no clue what is going on with my con ... desperation

Please, dont post a wall of malformed power scripts into the thread. Use code tag instead, and make it clear it can be very dangerous when u run random scripts from unknown sources on your PC.
