Supreme Commander is crashing on launch

Supreme Commander is crashing on launch with an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. It crashes with Setons maps but not for the 'Fields of Isis' map which suggests the problem might be related to water.
I think the problem started with a recent update to Supreme Commander. I re-installed Supreme Commander from a DVD and FAF from the web site but this has not helped.
The ' warning: GetResource: Invalid name "" ' messages in the log below might be significant. Please help.

I have same issue and dont know solution i turn off new ui mods but it still happens time to time. I will add full log on next error. Mine crashed on DualGap

It is probably not the same issue. OP has the 0xc0000005 error (no log was provided unfortunately), which could be related to many things, making it tricky and time-consuming to debug in my experience.
You, @shribodisatva, only have the XACT error, for which you may find a solution in that following thread.
