TMD useless against ACU Tac Missiles
-
In this game: https://replay.faforever.com/25147672 at minute 18, Flying7dutch... plays a winning move by putting his UEF T2+TacMissile ACU in some water and sending tac missiles to take out a bunch of T2 mexes.
As I watch the replay, I'm surprised to see that some of those tac missiles pass right over Aeon defending TMDs. The TMDs let out their little round puff, but it doesn't get anywhere close to the tac missile before the missile is way away from it. It looks like the tac missiles is going way too high and way too fast, for that round puff to have any chance.
Is it intentional that TMDs can completely miss tac missiles that go straight over them? I don't recall seeing that before. In this game, this happened for 5-6 missiles.
I'm not sure how one should defend against tac missiles the way this works. Perhaps the ACU tac missiles are especially awesome like this? This made me think ACU tac missile should be my new favorite tool.

There's some interplay between the height of a missle and the max intercept height. Missles at the peak of their arc may fly above TMD. Very likely that's what you're observing. You defend against this by having TMD closer to the targets you're defending.

Wow. I never realized that was the case. You're right these missiles went way above the TMD.
I've always been placing TMD as a line of defense, and never been thinking of it as something I need to put next to things I'm protecting behind the front lines. -
It's basically only UEF specific, as they have received higher missile arc in TML balance patch. And while it can happen with other factions, the UEF is the main culprit in 99% of scenarios.
