Last week, EA released the source code of various C&C games, and this was received very positively by the gaming community, especially coming from a company like EA.

I think it's a good time to send tweets to @wargaming_net to do the same thing for SCFA. Thoughts?

I read on this forum that we believe the source code is lost, but where is this information coming from? Have we ever asked Wargaming.net if they have it?

LMAO. Not only you pointing at wrong company, but also wargaming seattle does not exist anymore... You have to ask publisher for such things like Square Enix. And consider this: games that EA given source code to are from 90s. I doubt Square Enix would give out source to SCFA (which is 2007) and... we asked and according to them they don't have it.

No need to be condescending, who talked about Wargaming Seattle?
Wargaming.net bought Gas Powered Games in 2013 and renamed the studio Wargaming Seattle, then closed it in 2018 (dixit Wikipedia). But that was just a location, and Wargaming.net still exists.

When a studio closes, the parent company (Wargaming.net here in this case) doesn't just delete all the code and assets, they usually back it up in a closing kit. Square Enix was and still is the publisher of the game, but publishers are not usually the ones dealing with the code and assets, the developer is. And in this case, the last known developer is Wargaming.net. If Square Enix doesn't have the code, maybe Wargaming.net still has it.

Also C&C Generals Zero Hour is not from the 90s, it's 2003, just 4 years before SC. I'm not saying they will accept, just saying it's worth asking.

There have been several attempts over the last decade+, to loosen the source code from it's rights holder. All have been denied or rebuffed, even with significant monetary offers. The game still provides a small, but steady, revenue stream, so it's still viewed as a productive asset. While that situation is most certainly declining, year over year, I don't imagine that any offer south of $100k is going to get a whole lot of notice.

I'd like to hope that I'm wrong, and sometime soon - but that's how it stands.

And FAF will continue providing revenue for banned people buying the game again yD

He said, "I've been to the year 3000
Not much has changed, but they live underwater
              And your great-great-great-granddaughter
              Is playin' FAF, playin' FAF"

Clearly we should just let people pay to get unbanned! Then FAF gets the money and the IP owner doesn't, and then we can buy it!

I'm wondering if that's an investment Linus Sebastian would consider. Actually I got that news from the WAN show and we know he's playing FAF, or he used to at least, it's literally in his Twitter desc.

100$k dollars is not even gonna cut it. If remember correctly Visionik was willing to offer much more for the rights to the game and he still heard no.
There's also no reason for Linus to buy the IP or anything. If anything I think he would be more inclined with simply helping FAF do it's thing as a non-profit community project rather than try wrestling with Square enix for the rights to the IP and shit.
