Unable to launch game from FAF client
-
Hi all, I'm hoping someone can tell me what's going on with my game. I'm unable to launch a game from the FAF client, and it's currently giving me the error below. Let me know if more info is required to pinpoint the issue. Thanks!
Client Version: 2025.2.1
java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin\ForgedAlliance.exe" (in directory "C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin"): CreateProcess error=740, The requested operation requires elevation

The requested operation requires elevation
You do not have permission to run it.

As in I'm missing admin permissions? I've been having trouble with my PC recognizing my account as administrator, even though it's the only account and it says it's the admin account. Could that be the cause?

Hi, im also having problems with the FAF client (2025.2.1). It has worked well for me for a couple of years, including on my current laptop. But at some point 1 month ago it stopped launching the client (no errors or anything, it just doesnt open when i click on it) when the new version 2025.2.1 became necessary i think. I deleted the client and the original game several times but that doesnt seem to work. it does launch the original game when i open it from steam but not the client.
In the past ive already linked steam and the faf client and i have a faf account:

i would suggest to delete C:\ProgramData\FAForever folder
NOT PROGRAM FILES
Programdata is a hidden folder. Don't delete whole programdata, only Faforever folder inside of it.
it also contains replays AFAIK, so if you want to keep them then don't delete them.Basically this whole folder and things inside of it will be created automatically when you run FAF and use it.
FAF will redownload patches and re-create C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin\ForgedAlliance.exe
and if you run FAF without admin rights (as you should) then it should create things with correct permissions and it should keep working
(If you ran FAF before with admin rights, it could have created files that only admins are allowed to run, and afaik that could be not the only problem, so just delete folder, and don't run FAF as administrator)
