the version from the site does not work at all. It doesn't even give errors, just nothing happens after clicking on the icon.

Unless you have a very specific reason trying to use the Python client -Just download the latest, official FAF client from the website.

The only reason the official client wouldn't start is if you are running a version of windows 10 before windows 10 build version 1803. There is an incompatibility with that old version of windows 10.
