Hey so repost here for the new forums and I'll attempt the TLDR version in advance.
Large formations of units are currently running a end location movement calculation before moving. It would help tremendously to set up a new priority that gets them moving in that direction in a "dumb" fashion just to keep the game responsive and fast paces.
Than allow for the throttled cpu allowance to set up on the fly end location determination and formation layout.
Also there is a tendency for large fields of units sent to distant locations to condense down into line formations, then clump up at the nearest choke. Whatever is causing this needs to be looked at as they would have moved smoother and with reduced collision (costing cpu to simulate these bumps) without that tendency.
Slow formations work fine, but the speed it to low to be usable so people are currently doing all kinds of single unit type selection and manually determining move locations, but this ends up in a severely clumped formation at the end and is needless tedium and not a true skill separator.
