The current pre-release of the client ("pioneer" in the version) is only compatible to itself. So you can only play with other testers. Please be aware!

Is there a way to change the size of the strategic icon image that is over the actual image of the build que, so i can actually see what im selecting to build?

You can make them smaller. It is in one of the game options, below interface.
