So choosing the 'game type' Xtreme Wars uses the 1.0 version, but playing a normal FAF game and using the Xtreme Wars mod will include bug and balance fixes.

What is the difference between using the Xtreme Wars mod and selecting the Xtreme wars game type?

Not sure if it matters, but I generally play with friends vs a bunch of AI.
