The current pre-release of the client ("pioneer" in the version) is only compatible to itself. So you can only play with other testers. Please be aware!
I always say this, have you tried updating your windows drivers? I had crashes that were caused by a USB driver.
Go to "Check for updates", then install all the updates, including the optional ones. Might fix it, if not, at least you've ruled a few things out.
