The current pre-release of the client ("pioneer" in the version) is only compatible to itself. So you can only play with other testers. Please be aware!
It's the same issue indeed. The error in the patch is taking some time to revert but it should be fixed Soon TM.
In the meantime you can install uveso ai and swarm ai and try 6 humans vs 6 swarm AI.
