The current pre-release of the client ("pioneer" in the version) is only compatible to itself. So you can only play with other testers. Please be aware!

Maybe some file is corrupted. Have you verified the game files via Steam/GOG?

I fixed this by changing the game location to the correct file. Thanks for the suggestion @magge
