How to take my Build templates (mods?) to my new computer?
-
Well, perhaps we all have build templates we like to use.
How to move them from comp 1 to comp 2?
I have a valid FAF account on Steam and on Downlords client works fine, no problems, just like to take some stuff with me...
I can just download the mods again, but a little more effort for the Build Templates.
Did I say "Build templates"?

Found a suggestion, will update as I test it out

That will work. I paste the whole file too cos you get your hotkeys too. Then backup your prefs file because that thing is worth gold.

Agreed! Tested and works
Games Prefs can be found at:
path: %localappdata%\gas powered games\supreme commander forged alliance\(as stated in the link above).

I can't see the game.prefs file as stated in the above link. Anyone able to confirm if FAF Client has its own game.prefs file somewhere?
-
Open the FAF Client
Go to the "Hamburger Button" at top left - what is a hamburger button? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamburger_button
Select "show game.prefs file"

Alternate method if you don't want to mess with game prefs:
Make a new sandbox game, pick a big map with lots of space
(optional: turn on cheats, set speed to +4 or variable. Just use cheats to get lots of mass and energy, don't use cheats to place buildings)
Build all of your templates
End the match
On the new computer:
Play the replay file
Step in to your own point of view
Select each of the things you built and choose "make template"
End the replay
You will have the templates saved, they will be there the next time you start playing
This is also an easy way to share templates between different players
