@personne Unfortunately, the majority of FAF infrastructure has been under near-constant DDOS attacks since the end of September/beginning of October. A lot of measures have been taken to mitigate those attacks, but they're still happening & not all are able to be dealt with. The hardest hit systems now are the Coturn servers, which are used to assist with making connections between players when a stable P2P connection can't be established. At this time, there's only 1 Cotrun (labeled Global) that is having better success than the others because it's a 3rd party service with some additional protections.
With all that said, here are the current best suggestions for helping with connection issues:
In the FAF client, go to the top left menu > Settings:
- General > Write ICE Log File > check,
- Forged Alliance Forever > Use FAF Debugger when starting Forged Alliance > check > click "Get the latest version of the debugger",
- Allow the ICE adapter to use IPv6 > unchecked,
- Preferred Coturns for ICE > select only Global,
Next, quit the client (check Task Manager). Once it's completely closed, open the client again & play.
The next time you join a game & have connection issues, please click the Reply button at the bottom between the (View) icon & the "Mark unread" button. Next, go to client > top left menu > Show logs folder > logs > sort by Date Modified, then drag/drop these files into the Reply message window so those that can help (not me) have that data to look at:
- client.log file (the Text Document file without the date),
- ice-adapter.log & advanced-ice-adapter.log (both in a separate folder)
@quietjoy With regards to modifying some unit properties, I'd suggest having a look at Balthazar's SupCom Mod Tutorials Wiki. Balthazar is the creator of the popular BrewLAN mod & is very active in the community.
Just tip the balance to the faction since that's the best faction already.
Problem solved.
@rama Please pass this along to whomever you got this from:
All versions of SCFA hates Alt+Tab or other things that take focus away while playing in fullscreen, so if you're going to do that, then it's highly recommended that you play in Windowed. There are programs like Borderless Gaming or scripts like one of the ones in this FAF forum thread to make the window fit the entire screen so it appears that you're playing in fullscreen even though you're not.
@nicholasporan Not to be rude, but are you getting your info from ChatGPT?
The only thing that is correct from your post is item 1, with the exception that the FAF Client would be listed as faf-client.exe, not faf-launcher.exe. As for points 2 & 3, there is no such thing as a FAF Overlay & the logs are found in a users AppData folder, not in the either the FAF Client or FAF game data folders.
@Sheikah Can you please make the Steam overlay integration a user toggleable option instead of it always being on?
The reason I ask is because I don't play FAF, but I'm always around the FAF community to help others which often requires me to have the client open while I also have Steam running & open to help people in that community too. Since I'm not actually playing FAF but frequently have both the FAF client & Steam open, I don't want my play time altered unless I'm actually playing.
I like the idea of this feature, but it should either be a user toggleable option or only be triggered when creating or joining a game from the client.
Thanks.
I haven't tested in FAF, but in LOUD, I can just drag the assist order to a non-factory structure like a pgen, mass extractor, etc.. This results in that factory producing units from its own queue & not resuming assisting the other factory afterwards. In fact, you can continue to add units to the queue & just leave the assist order attached to the non-factory structure.
Edit: I just tested in a sandbox & this can also be done if FAF.
As to the 2nd question about making tweaks to a generated map, yes, you can make any tweaks you want; however, this new version is going to be for your personal use or for those that you share it with as NO generated maps (even with tweaks) are to be uploaded to the Maps vault.
@diobolical OK, 2 things to do for further troubleshooting:
- Go to your Steam SCFA folder > DirectX, then run the DXSETUP.exe installer to re-install the DirectX files that SCFA uses (just in case those weren't installed correctly).
- Go to Steam > Library > right-click SCFA > Properties > General > Launch Options > copy/paste this into that field:
/log "A:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance\logs\steamfa.log"
I grabbed that file path from your client.log, so you'll need to change it if that's not the correct path to your Steam SCFA install.
Try Steam SCFA again after doing the above.

@crowbarstrong To help with troubleshooting your issues, I'd suggest that you go to the FAF client > top left menu > Settings:
- General > Write ICE Log File > check
- (Windows only) Forged Alliance Forever > Use FAF Debugger when starting Forged Alliance > check > click "Get the latest version of the debugger"
- Allow the ICE adapter to use IPv6 > unchecked
- Preferred Coturns for ICE > select only Global
Next, quit the client (check Task Manager). Once it's completely closed, open the client again & play.
The next time you join a game & have issues, please click the Reply button at the bottom between the (View) icon & the "Mark unread" button. - client.log file (the Text Document file without the date)
- ice-adapter.log & advanced-ice-adapter.log (both in a separate folder)
- if the game actually launched, then also include the latest game_2xxxxxxx.log file
@markjefferson One issue that I can confirm that you have is that your maps & mods are in OneDrive. All versions of SCFA have a difficult time with using network storage systems like OneDrive, Dropbox, etc..
To get around this for FAF, you'll need to:
- go to FAF client > top left menu > Settings > Forged Alliance Forever > Maps and Mods Location > Choose...
- navigate to a location outside of OneDrive
- either select an already existing folder or create a new folder for where FAF will store your maps/mods & then select the new folder
- double-check the new path to ensure that it's not in OneDrive
After resolving that issue, I suggest that you play a game without any mods to help determine if there's an issue with the base FAF game or the co-op map. If you still crash in a non-modded game, then it's one of those things. If not, then it's one or more of the mods that you're playing with causing the crash & you're going to have to troubleshoot that.
@lothar863 Try adding an exception/exclusion for the FAF Client in both the active scan & firewall sections of your AV software & Windows Security. I would also try clearing the cache of each browser you've tried & then try again.
If you still have an issue, then click the Reply button at the bottom between the (View) icon & the "Mark unread" button. Next, open Run (Windows+R) & go to the following:
%USERPROFILE%/AppData\Roaming\Forged Alliance Forever\logs
Sort by Date Modified. From there, drag/drop your client.log file (the Text Document file without the date) into the Reply message window so those that can help (not me) have that data to look at.
@melanol You can already see the range ring when you hover over or select the platform. I believe it's a mustard color.
That said, there's an issue in the engine logic that will prevent aircraft from using the currently closest platform & instead travel to the platform that was closest to were the aircraft was built.
This could be done with a mod & could be done with a check of the player type to determine if the player is human or AI, so there would be no restriction on human players & AIs having the same faction, only humans having access to all the structures & units that the AI has access to.
I would suggest making a mod request thread in the Modding & Tools sub-forum.
@custos_stsp You need to either disable or remove the Citrix software as that causes issues with all version of SCFA.
@micahsoft I don't se anything obvious in your log to indicate what may have caused the crash, but maybe somebody else will. In the meantime, I would suggest that if you're using Windows, then please go to FAF client > top left menu > Settings > Forged Alliance Forever > Use FAF Debugger when starting Forged Alliance > > click "Get the latest version of the debugger". This will create a more detailed log to assist with troubleshooting.
@Custos_StSp It is frowned upon to hijack somebody else's thread requesting help even if you have a similar issue. Please delete your post above & then create your own thread to discuss your issue.

@movableacorn3 I would suggest that you start by either clearing your browsers cache or temporarily changing the Default Browser in Windows Settings.
If that doesn't work, then try adding an exception/exclusion for the FAF Client in both the active scan & firewall sections of your AV software & Windows Security.
