The current pre-release of the client ("pioneer" in the version) is only compatible to itself. So you can only play with other testers. Please be aware!
Sounds like the update didn't replace all files. An unpleasant but common issue with our installer.
Uninstall. Manual delete all remaining files in C:\Program Files\FAF Client, then reinstall.
