Three times out of four, I get the following error when trying to join a game or create one.
I have no network issue, in game or otherwise.
java.util.concurrent.CompletionException: java.util.concurrent.ExecutionException: org.springframework.web.client.ResourceAccessException: I/O error on GET request for "https://api.faforever.com/featuredMods/0/files/latest": Connection reset; nested exception is javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Connection reset at java.base/java.util.concurrent.CompletableFuture.encodeThrowable(CompletableFuture.java:331) at java.base/java.util.concurrent.CompletableFuture.completeThrowable(CompletableFuture.java:346)
Running version 1.2.0. I just found the orange icon offers an upgrade to the 1.2.1.
You have a network issue or ssl issue on your side. Try to open the page https://api.faforever.com/featuredMods/0/files/latest in a browser.
I can open the page, it works every time.
I upgraded and I still get the error:
The game did not terminate correctly and has still certain files open. Some files from the installed game could not be copied over to FAF but unless you recently modified game files in the installed version you probably do not care. We are still starting the game for you.

Is it possible that your browser is using a proxy, but the client is not?
Hi Brutus, no I don't have a proxy or finicky firewall.
I checked the Windows Firewall and there are no Block rules for Java or FAF.
Well unfortunately the http call is something we have no control over, it's an essential part of the Java Runtime. If it works in your browser, but not in the client something is wrong with the JRE. The JRE is bundled with the client itself. Apart from a complete uninstall and wipe of the installation directory, there is nothing else we can recommend
Also did not find much on the Exception online https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8241372 maybe even tho effected version seems to only be java 15 and not java 14
